J & G has surplus CZ-82's in 9x18 makarov. These are used. For about 20-30 dollars more you can get one with A "new American barrel with standard rifling".

Is this new barrel a plus or a minus in your experience? Do the barrels in standard surplus guns wear out enough that they typically need replacing? Are the American barrels up to the standards of CZ quality?

I don't mind paying extra, but I just want to make sure it works like a cz IS SUPPOSED TO WORK.

Any other comments about the surplus CZ-82 in general? Thanks - Jm

Not sure necessarily about the CZ-82, but I know in an imported AK, you'd fall afoul of 922r regulations just replacing the barrel. I could easily be wrong, but you probably aughta check that out first...

There's not a 922r compliance problem with the barrel (922r is not applicable in this case, plus the addition of a US made part would only help achieve 922r compliance). J&G wouldn't be selling it if such were the case.

As per the new barrel, I haven't heard much about the American ones (I can only assume they replaced the barrel because the original was in VERY poor condition). All the CZ-82s I've fired have been decently accurate, so personally, I'd probably save the bucks on the US barrel and just try to get as high a grade as possible on the original CZ pistol and consider getting a handpicked one.

The stock barrels on a CZ-82 are chrome-lined with polygonal rifling - in fact, they look almost like a smooth-bore. It would seem nearly impossible to shoot out that barrel. The only advantage to a newer, rifled barrel would be to shoot cast reloads, I would think. I don't know how popular it is to reload 9X18, though.

My CZ-82 is a fine pistol. I'm able to shoot it as accurately as a number of other handguns I own, including a Glock 30, a Browning Hi Power, and a Sig P6, despite the 82's shorter barrel.

I've got 5 of em with original barrels. All shoot great.
I also recommend Southern Ohio Guns as a great place to purchase the CZ-82You have to register, and email em a copy of your C&R to see prices.

My CZ 82 with stock polygonal barrel is very accurate for most anybody I've handed it to. Could it be they are proactively responding to the issue of people receiving these guns and thinking there is a problem with the barrel because they see no traditional rifling?

In regards to Fed 922r parts compliance...

Fed 922r parts compliance is only required for imported semi-auto centerfire rifles and imported shotguns.

Imported handguns, imported rimfire rifles and imported non-semi-auto centerfire rifles are exempt from 922r.

Thanks, AethelstanAegen and Quiet, I stand corrected. I just figured it was one of those things where it is better to be safe than sorry.
