Just got my CZ 82 from J&G.
Need the following info.

The pistol is in good condition except some of the paint finish is chipped. Can this be touched up?

I'd like to get a dis-assembly diagram. Does anyone know where to get one?

It is in great mechanical condition and really feels good. Hope to shoot it soon.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks 308sc, that's what I needed.

Do you know if paint similar to the finish is available?

I did some research and the CZ82 Wikipedia article indicated unlike
many smaller smei-autos built for police in europe the CZ 82 is over
builot in terms of quality of materials and design, just a cheap finish. It
said most parts are interchangeable with the currently produced CZ 83
but in .380 Auto (9x17) and the magazines are interchangeable. The
9mm Makarov (9x18) is a little better ballistically than the 3.80 Auto
cartridge. I noticed SPeer offers a 9mm Mak load with Gold Dots. I
didn't notice where you're at but my shooting buddy who lives in Moscow
ID. said that Tri-State has boxes of 9mm Mak. I think Federal - maybe
somebody ordered the wrong 9mm ammo? Anyway I've been thinking
about one of these 82s myself, mind sharing what you paid for yours?

I do not know of any paint that is close to the stuff that is on the CZ 82. Someone else might though.

Your main options are to leave it how it is, have some hot blue it, or cold blue it yourself, or Duracoat it or other similar items (brownells gunkote...etc)

a Duracoat type finish would be the closest to the original finish since it is sprayed on

Duracoat is easy to do, or if you are kinda uneasy about doing it yourself there are people that will do it for you.....also Brownells has a product that is similar and have videos on youtube about how to apply it.

Here are some pics what a CZ 82 looks like when "Duracoated" (NOT MY GUN)

This is one I picked up a year or so ago from Aim Surplus. I splurged and got the wood grips for it. A fine little weapon with unfortunately some chipped paint.

Texastbird,
Small world, my CZ probably came from the factory the same week as your's judging by the serial number. I see you have the thicker mag base plate too. I like them better than the thin plate used now.

I got one about a week ago and really like it. They are fine guns.
I saw quite a few at this weekend's gun show. Some had extra mags, but most were selling with just the gun and one mag.
Ammo isn't too hard to find at most gun stores. You can get Wolf, Brown Bear, Silver Bear, or some of the other import ammo pretty cheap($10-11/box). There's also S&B ammo, which is pretty good.
They are reliable guns. One of the few real bargains out there right now.

harmon rabb, Outstanding post.

I've taken one of my 82s apart and I wish I had this then! It can be a bit tricky to reassemble.

usp9, I got one mag with the thick base plate and one with the thin stamped base plate. I have been on the lookout for more with the aluminum baseplate but haven't found one yet. I just ordered dies, Starline brass and Berry's bullets to load some of my own ammo. I ran out of my old cheap Norinco stuff and my wife doesn't like the smell of that Iron Curtain powder..ha, ha.

Bought my second CZ 82

I love them so much I just bought a second one. You can get the black grips from CZ USA for $17 and modify them a bit to fit. I plan on "touching up" the new one with Gun Kote and don't think I have to remove the entire paint job. any advice on a partial touch up with Gun Kote?

Unlike .380 ammo in Wa or Id..
At least you can find 9mm Mak JHP ammo.
However, I thought that Speer discontinued the
9MM Mak stuff.

lots of ammo

There is tons of Brown Bear ammo FMJ and ocassionally you can get some Hornday JHP, this is the main reason I went with the 9x18. It is nearly impossible to find .380 or 9x19 ammo; plus the brown bear ammo is only $9.95 a box. Some ranges won't let you shoot it because it sparks but still for $9.95 a box and plenty of supply it is good for plinking. A 9x18 JHP will ruin an intruders day every bit as much as a standard 9mm 9x19. I think the CZ 82 shoots very well, and easy to crank off a doxen shots... its also sexy. and looks like a gun 007 would carry versus the boxy look of the Glock etal knock offs.

9x18 is available everywhere online :) I like my CZ-82. It is very flat shooting and accurate, and is a modern pistol hiding out as a milsurp bargain.

I bought one awhile ago too. I'm probably going to try and give this thing a new coat of paint sooner or later. To many people have said "don't!", but then I post the pic of it and they say "nevermind, go for it!" :D .

If you have one, hang on to it. These went so fast at the KCI Expo Center gun show (held by RKshows) today that you could see the mob of buyers go straight from the tables selling them to the vendors with extra magazines.

So hold on loosely, but don't let it go.

I just got one from J&G too. There's a bit of a problem on mine with a slide stop spring that likes to escape. I've ordered an aftermarket spring that's supposed to stay in place better.

I was lucky, I guess, and the finish on mine is pretty much intact: just some very minor holster wear around the muzzle. If it ever gets too funky, I'll have it Duracoated. Do a Google image search for CZ-82 and Duracoat, and you'll see some really nice-looking pistols. Here are a few:

I bought one about 3 months ago from Centerfire Systems. Price to my door (with my C&R FFL) was $225. It came with 2 mags and a holster.

Mine has chipped paint and a 1985 production date; it's in great shape. I ordered some Winchester 9x18 ammo (made by S&B, I believe) from Grafs.

I've kept the brass and begun reloading it. With the Lee 95-gr round nose bullet mold, I've created a lighter load so that the brass doesn't fly all the way out to the high grass--easier to pick up when the brass is only 3 feet away.

If you're not a reloader and you want to use your 82 for a nightstand gun, see if your dealer can order Hornady's XTP ammo for it. That would make a superb defense round. The Hornady comes 25 rounds/box, as do many defensive rounds.

Regarding refinishing, I've toyed with the idea of stripping it to the frame, having the frame and slide beadblasted, and then doing a Duracote-type finish. However, that's low on my list right now.

Enjoy!

hammerhead, classicarms has some cz-82's in stock. mine came from their last batch and was literally brand new, never touched.

are you saying the word is now out in these pistols as well? :( i wish these great bargains could stay a secret :(

I'm happy they do. Hopefully they'll stay in stock long enough for me to get ahead of my bills to make another purchase! :D

But yes, apparently the secret is out. To whoever told: you owe me an extra magazine :cuss: . :D

I tried the touch up pen that I bought at Sportsman's and ended up with black all over my hand after 50 rounds? this stuff was made specifically for guns; is the auto stuff better?

I have the gun kote aeresol I thought I would spray the muzzle end where it has holster wear and then bake it?

Also CZ-USA doesn't have the black plastic grips on the website anymore...does anyone know where to get these?

These are fine things.

LOL!

I bought two of them over five years ago, so I guess they're in their second coming now.

One of mine is an early version, I guess, and wouldn't feed hollow points at all, but the second one fed them fine.

A comparison of the two feedramps showed that the early one was significantly narrower than the later so a little careful work updating the elder and they both feed everything I've put through them.

It's the thickest paint I've ever seen on a gun and pretty useless to try to touch up. Best to strip it all off and start new. If you can't handle the disassembly I'm sure someone like Mac's can.

Any contact info for Mac's and price guestimate?

Thanks,

I've got two CZ-82's. One I kept stock, the other had more chipped paint and scratched grips. That one I stripped and blued the slide, added a fiber optic front sight and walnut grips. Both shoot equally well.
