Cz-82: yes or no?

I have one and love it. I waited and paid $275 for one I was able to hand pick. Most I saw were showing a lot of wear and the barrels were nearly shot out. On mine you can't tell if it has ever been fired. Plenty of extra mags on the market for 82's and 83's.

Considering that the '82 barrel is polygonally rifled, uh, how can you tell? There is no visible rifling even on a brand new barrel.

oh no! You'll just have to shoot it as is, what a shame!

True, because to me that painted look is extremely shoddy looking, and I wouldn't buy one to keep cheap looking.

Well, I got 1 today. As room as I can, I'm going for 2 more.
I'm thinking of how I want to refinish the gun. I haven't decided between parkerize or duracoat.
I would psost a pic buy my phone is being difficult.

There you go
just remember, when you get tired of trying to get the sear spring leg properly seated in the hammer block safety,

CZ-USA will reassemble your bag gun for just $70 and shipping.

The poly coat comes right off with the right strippers, but I forget which is the right one, and I just blasted it anyways, I used K-phos and GunKote from KG Coatings, to good effect.

Edit:
trlhrv,
did you read this thread, the fact that the CZ is polygonally rifled has been mentioned a number of times, including by me and is often the FIRST thing mentioned on the gun description, CIA actually ships a paper explaining, or did at one point.
ON A SIDE NOTE

the 82 was designed to shoot a custom round, a sintered Iron round loaded about 25%hotter than 9mak. Hence the Poly rifling (very accurate BTW...) as these round DESTROY traditional rifling, but you can't buy them, as they are consider AP now. It used to be sold with PM maks, and PA-63, one of the distributors actually ran a deal, PA-63 with 200 rounds of Vz. 82 9mm, so if you see a PA-63 with chewed bore...

It may not be 9mm Nato, but it sure aint .380

Remember, the scratches on the pistols are easily concealed with a little birchwood super-blue. You got it to shoot, not to look at. pay attention to post #105;do not pull the pistol apart beyond field-strip unless necessary. These pistols are hardly fashion queens to begin with. Utility grade guns, as designed. Enjoy.

I took my CZ82 out today and examined the barrel again. It does have polygon rifling but you can see the grooves faintly under light. The bore is almost mirror finish(shiney). I've seen some of the barrels on others that were scarred and pitted. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. It is very helpful.

they're kind of ugly and cheap looking, period, even when redone. they're fantastic little shooters, but pretty... nope.

if i had to pick a 9x18 gun to pretty up, it would be a p-64, or makarov. both of those have nice lines.

Come on
Give the fat girl a break
She's pretty just like a truck is pretty

Maybe not much to look at BUT VERY good at getting the job done.

As I said, utlilty grade fat girl guns, as designed. Enjoy. Just as pretty brush painted as sprayed, yes? Last post on subject.

Heck if some people like the business like look of a Glock, then the CZ-82 is just beautiful.

.... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder..... If were to decide to redo my gun, I'll most likely let my gunsmith disassemble it and reassemble it when I am done.
I'm still undecided on what, if any, color scheme I'm going with.
I might leave it be or I might make it how I want it. I haven't decided yet.
I think it would look good WWII green park lower with a dark grey slide. Or light park it just to duracoat it for texture. I don't know.

Of course trying to think about gun work when I've been up for 30 hours is a bit sketchy.
I consider and reconsider a project for weeks if not months before I decide to "break ground" on it. There is no telling what I'll end up doing. I have seen some that have been refine that I have been impressed with. I will making a kydex holster for it. I know that much.

CZ-82

Ruddie,

I got both, the Czech CZ-82 and the Polish Radom P-64, and fell in love with each right off the bat. I had new springs put into the Radom to ease the DA trigger pull, and now it is as easy in that mode as the CZ is. My CZ has a difficult mag release button, so I will try to get it replaced as well. The Radom is a little smaller, for easier concealed carry. It's real hot down in South Florida, where I live, and a jacket or extra outside shirt is not always an option, so, the smaller, the better for my carrying needs. You'll love the ease of the CZ's performance when you shoot it. Having my C & R license, I was able to get them both for under $200 each. I got the CZ from Wideners, and the P-64 from J & G Sales. The 9X8mm Makarov caliber rounds are plentiful and not very expensive. You can get them in FMJ for the range, and HP for personal defense. Good luck with it Buddy.

The button can be galled (worn, forming metal ridges) by the titanium, or Ti coated T piece that actually releases the mag, you can pop the trigger release apart and reshape, which helps alot, esp. if its 'hard' on one side and not the other (then flip it, the unworn side is you dominate release)

AS for the P64, I like the original springs, sorry but... I would hate to think how light my SA would be, it's ~2 pounds now, BUT you do need adrenalin or crazy gorilla hands to fire it DA.

As for a gun smith, well MOST US gunsmiths will have NEVER touched, let alone know the 'quirks' of the 82, all they have is a better pick set than you.

I actually like the lines of the gun much better than the CZ 83, that squared off trigger guard always looks weird to me. The painted finish is the only thing I personally don't like about the CZ 82, and its features make it worthy, to me at least, of the effort to parkerize it.

this is my big problem with the p64. if you want a reasonable DA trigger, you end up with a 1lb SA trigger. if you want a reasonable (lol. reasonable for a target 1911 maybe) trigger, you end up with a 39lb DA trigger. there is no happy medium with this gun.

Thanks for that info on the CZ mag release button Shadow. I took it to my gun shop today, and the manager said that he'd polish it and maybe get it to work on both sides by doing that. We'll see.

So me and my buddy got in a heated caliber discussion the other day..... He said he didn't like the gun because it was a small 9mm.... He carries the same as I normally carry, a Glock 22 40 cal. He was trying to convince me that the gun was a bad buy because of this.
Now the way I look at it is if I had to defend myself with my 82 and I put one in someone's noodle, I'm pretty sure they are going to stop doing whatever it was that they were doing to cause me to take action. My bull headed friend replied (he doesn't think sometimes) "It's what you do after that that counts".
All I could do at this point was stare blankly at him and wonder what had just happend....
I told him if several military factions and police all over the world thought it as good enough to serve its purpose then I'm good with it. He still disagrees with me although he wants to fondle it every time he's over....

Um,
caliber wars never end nicely

So, take your 'pee shooter'
and do a little 3 stance shooting, keep taking the targets out further, and see in the end, WHO is the better shot, and if you can , time the groups.

Cause you see, close counts in Horse Shoes, and Hand Grenades. Lead on target, is ALL that counts. there isn't a miracle bullet, a .40 is a 3 way compromise, larger than 9, smaller than 45 and milder than 10, the perfect middle of the road round...

Hey, what about .357 Sig.

Um,
caliber wars never end nicely

Oups, sorry I forgot.
