Just received my 97B and after one mag. the bushing locked up on the spring plug. It galled the bushing 1/2 moon thing. and the bushing is now not right.

Photos tomorrow

question, contact CZ to have it repaired or Cajun it with a 1911 style bushing?

I bought a new 2021 CZ 97 BD back in December and last May was the first time I tried shooting it along with a couple of NIB Sigs P227s SAS I had bought but never tested. I cleaned the CZ 97 BD with CLP and applied a small amount of Brian Enos' Slide Glide Light to the rails. Before installing the barrel nut, I put some CLP drops on the threads and screwed it in.

After reassembly, I racked the slide several times and tested the function of the pistol. Everything appeared to be functioning.

After testing the Sigs, I waited for the CZ to be last as I suspected the recoil would be much lighter than on the Sigs. Boy, I was right! Even though it was only one round shot, the recoil was light and felt good. Though, I didn't mind the recoil on the Sigs.

After the first shot on the CZ 97 BD, the slide stayed open all the way back. At first, I thought I had a FTF, and tapping the magazine had no effect and I could not rack the slide. I dropped the magazine and still could not get the slide to move. Eventually, after several minutes, I decide to hit the back of the slide with my palm, and eventually, it gradually went back into battery. I could not rack the slide though.

Later when I inspected the pistol, while disassembling it, I noticed somehow the barrel bushing shifted so as to pinch/block the recoil spring bushing. Once I moved the barrel bushing slightly so the grove was in line with the recoil spring bushing, it allowed everything to free up and I was able to pull out the bushing. It had a couple of very small grooves on it.

I reinstalled everything and racked the slide several times. I noticed the barrel bushing move ever so slightly around the bushing so that it wasn't perfectly centered as first installed.

When I spoke with CZ CS, they wanted me to complete a warranty claim (which I did) and send them the entire pistol even though it only needed a new barrel bushing. They wanted the entire pistol in case there were other out-of-specs issues that caused the bushing to move on its own when firing.

I received the pistol back in less than a week with a new bushing and have not taken it to the range yet. I would call CZ customer service unless you want to pay to Cajun it...

thanks for the write up! Yeah have the exact same issue!!!!

Let me let CZ make this right then I’ll mess with it later. I consider this gun, Unreliable for service, this has got to be a flaw in design. I bought the gun used, hope they don’t make a big deal about that during warranty service

When I filed my claim, I had to upload a copy of my receipt. I thought nothing of it until I called them later because I was considering buying another CZ 97 BD but this one was used, they told me their warranty is only for the original owner. Here is their warranty....https://cz-usa.com/support/warranty/.

You can buy the barrel bushing directly from them https://shop.cz-usa.com/barrel-bushing-cz-970460059002.html. It's back ordered.....Interesting that the price went up from $28 to $35 in one month. I was considering buying an extra barrel bushing last May (after having this issue) along with various springs since parts may become scarce in five years.

well that makes it a easy. CGW, here I come

This bushing issue must be for a batch of out of spec barrel bushings. I have a 97b (several years old) that still locks up the barrel and barrel bushing as tightly as it did when new. I am a little perplexed at the descriptions of the problem. CZ has had great QC in the past.

The screw in bushing does have to be screwed in all the way and then backed out a fraction to align with the recoil spring plug. Could it be that it was not aligned properly when first shot? Or maybe the bore of the bushing is oversized? Or the bushing’s half moon cutouts are not to spec? I’d be interested in your description.

I hoping the issue gets resolved for both of you fellas and you get to experience what a great shooter this pistol can be.

30’ off hand and I suck with a pistol.

@Mark_Mark

You mentioned it not being reliable for service. You weren’t thinking of carrying it were you?

that’s was my diagnosis too. Who ever cleaned this gun before me, screwed it all the way down. I took it apart yesterday and backed it off one notch and I’ll test it in 2-3 days after work.

yes, I like carrying all my guns

In my case, after cleaning and reassembly, the bushing was tightened and then backed off so that it aligned properly with the recoil bushing. The pistol was racked several times and functioned properly. The barrel bushing did not move after racking and testing functionality.

Apparently, the original bushing was out of spec to cause it to move with the recoil from the first shot....

Hopefully, the problem has been fixed on my pistol as I really do not want to pay to Cajun it. Once I am convinced with its performance along with the performance of the ammo I intend to use, I plan on carrying it regularily via a couple of methods.

I’m not mad, you buy enough guns and it happens every now and then

Don’t tell anybody, but I got the gun for $300 plus a ticked out Ruger MK2 stubby.
