I bought a new 2021 CZ 97 BD back in December and last May was the first time I tried shooting it along with a couple of NIB Sigs P227s SAS I had bought but never tested. I cleaned the CZ 97 BD with CLP and applied a small amount of Brian Enos' Slide Glide Light to the rails. Before installing the barrel nut, I put some CLP drops on the threads and screwed it in.
After reassembly, I racked the slide several times and tested the function of the pistol. Everything appeared to be functioning.
After testing the Sigs, I waited for the CZ to be last as I suspected the recoil would be much lighter than on the Sigs. Boy, I was right! Even though it was only one round shot, the recoil was light and felt good. Though, I didn't mind the recoil on the Sigs.
After the first shot on the CZ 97 BD, the slide stayed open all the way back. At first, I thought I had a FTF, and tapping the magazine had no effect and I could not rack the slide. I dropped the magazine and still could not get the slide to move. Eventually, after several minutes, I decide to hit the back of the slide with my palm, and eventually, it gradually went back into battery. I could not rack the slide though.
Later when I inspected the pistol. While disassembling it, I noticed somehow the barrel bushing shifted so as to pinch/block the recoil spring bushing. Once I moved the barrel bushing slightly so the grove was in line with the recoil spring bushing, it allowed everything to free up and I was able to pull out the bushing. It had a couple of very small grooves on it.
I reinstalled everything and racked the slide several times. I noticed the barrel bushing move ever so slightly around the bushing so that it wasn't perfectly centered as first installed.
When I spoke with CZ CS, they wanted me to complete a warranty claim (which I did) and send them the entire pistol even though it only needed a new recoil bushing. They wanted the entire pistol in case there were other out-of-specs issues that caused the bushing to move on its own when firing.
I received the pistol back in less than a week with a new bushing and have not taken it to the range yet. I would call CZ customer service unless you want to pay to Cajun it...
