Got to spend some time at the range with a new 97B. I purchased this pistol new for $510.00 + $15.00 shipping + $25.00 FFL fee. I then installed the CZ Custom Shop Competition hammer for $58.00 and a Wolf 13# mainspring for $4.00 + $4.50 for postage. This comes to $616.50.

I sanded the stock CZ grips to narrow the grip and it now measures 1.275", or just over an inch and a quarter. I did not measure the width before. I also installed a couple of strips of a self adhesive floor safety anti-slip material virtually identical to skateboard tape.

I shot my handload consisting of a 200gn LSWC, H&G #68 behind 6.3gns of Ramshot Silhoutte powder and a Federal #150 primer seated to an OAL of 1.265", which turned out to be to long for this pistol.

I shot about 80 rounds to get familiar with the gun and get a feel for the trigger. The pistol is very smooth in overall operation and everything slides, snicks and clicks like a quality firearm is supposed to do.

I have medium+ hands and for me, the modified CZ grip is among the most comfortable I have ever felt. It can best be described as "hand-filling" and this, in my opinion, distributes recoil effectively giving the impression of less felt recoil. The weight also seems to help dampen .45acp recoil as well.

As far as accuracy goes, this is one of the most accurate out of the box .45's I have ever owned. The Witness Elite Match .45 is probably as accurate (I own one) as is my Kimber Classic Custom. The CZ is just a joy to shoot and I was wishing I had brought more ammo.

As an aside, there were a couple guys shooting in the next lane I have gotten to know. They were examining the 97 (they're Glock fans) and I offered to let them shoot it with their reloads. At 7 yards off-hand one of these gentlemen laid down a 5 shot group you could cover with a quarter. They suddenly became very inquisitive about the CZ. As I watched them shoot the 97, I noticed how little muzzle flip it displayed. It looked like they were shooting a minor power 9mm.

I really like this pistol and recommend one if your hands are big enough. This picture is a 7 shot group I fired at 30'. The only drawback to this pistol is I don't really find anything else intesting, gun-wise, at the present. I want to spend my spare change on ammo now, not another gun.

Hello David;

Thank you for the range report on your new CZ97B. Sounds like it is the same as the 97Bs that I have currently and have had in the past. Simply great pistols. I've found the CZ97B to be the equal of pistols costing two or three times as much.

I've found that when I load SWCs for my CZ97Bs and Witness Elite Match 1.250 OAL works best.

Best regards and good shooting.
