LGS has two CZ Bobwhites, something I didn't even know CZ made. A side by side shotgun, one in 12g ($780) and one in 20g ($1000).

Anyone care to shed light on this particular model? I initially only wanted a 20g as it would be primarily a gun just go have (I don't currently own a shotgun). Home defense, the rare Deer or Turkey hunt. If the 20g is a few hundred dollars more though I'd rather just go 12g and use lighter loads, and be able to shoot the heavy stuff if I ever want to.

CZ does NOT make these, so do not think they are the same quality as their handguns and rifles. They are made for CZ in Huglu, Turkey by the gun firm of the same name to be sold at a certain price point. Quality has been hit and miss, some have had decent service, others have not. Their triggers are gritty, the barrels may or may not be well-regulated, many times the wood to metal fit is somewhat "eh". Will you get a good one? Maybe yes, maybe no

I have a CZ Bob White in 12 gauge with 28 inch barrels. I bought it new 2 years ago for $500. I'm a casual skeet shooter that prefers to use field type guns for skeet. I got the Bob White because I wanted a side by side to occasionally shoot with and I didn't want to spend a lot of money to simply fill a nitch.

The fit and finish on the gun is pretty good. I have no real complaints on that. So far I have about 4500 rounds through it. It has been reliable and has not failed. The only problem was the heavy trigger pull. As recieved the triggers measured between 11 and 12 pounds. I had them lightened to between 6 and 7 pounds. Heavy triggers are common in the CZ Huglus.

For me it has served it's purpose and I would buy it again. However, if I wanted a really nice side by side and had the money to spend, I'd get a Merkel.

Comparing a CZ to a Merkel is like comparing a Chevy Impala to a Bentley.....:D

Merkels are very nice, especially if their stock dimensions work for you.........

As I said, folks seem to be about 50-50 on the quality - which is a LOT better than a few years ago. It isn't that the Turks can't build a good gun - they do from other firms there; but when you build to what is essentially a budget price point, certain things have to give - whether in the manufacturing process, the quality control area or other

CZ Huglu quality has improved, but it still can be hit or miss. The good news is that CZ is reported to be good about resolving problems. I researched the CZ Huglu quality issues before I bought my Bob White. I decided to take the chance. With the exception of heavy trigger pulls my Bob White has been fine.

That said, if I was to buy another CZ Huglu, I would only buy a factory new one with all guarantees. That way if there were any problem it could go back for service. I'm not sure that I'd buy a used one.
