I know they are a good value, the price sure seems right. I'm thinking about a .308 for boar, deer, maybe even elk hunting someday (whatever is delicious) :) . I'll be a new hunter too, though my research tells me their Mauser type action is nice and reliable. Also are there any good/bad sides to getting one with a detachable magazine over internal magazine? I doubt I'll be shooting that many pigs at once to need a few magazines of .308 but I do like the versatility of it.

I have a CZ527 in .223, and it seems to be an excellent rifle. I say "seems" because although I've put probably 75 rounds through it, I've yet to really get serious about wringing out all of its potential.

One thing I can tell you, I would have no qualms about buying another CZ rifle in any caliber. The workmanship at CZ is of high quality. The same goes for their fine CZ75BD pistols. The guns that I've seen from CZ are an excellent value--accurate, attractive, and made well.

I've heard some people complain about detachable rifle magazines in the past, but from my limited experience with them, they've been no problem.

Speaking from personal experience, I like elk better than deer. I've not hunted boar, yet, so I can't comment on that.

I love the CZs. You can see pictures of mine on the thread QuarterBoreGunner linked to.

That said, I don't like detachable magazines, and I don't like that they're not using a true short action these days. Back when these guns were the BRNO ZKK series, they made three action lengths. The ZKK 600 was a .30-06 length action, the 602 was for H&H-length magnums, and the 601 was for .308-length cartridges.

The .308-length action is no longer made, instead they put a detachable magazine on the -06 length action. I wish they still made the short action with a regular magazine; it'd be a great little rifle.

Best,
Joe

This is a picture of mine

It's a .17 HMR. You can see the dime-sized five-shot group in the dot in the middle of the folded target. There is a dime on the near bipod leg for reference.

The group was shot sitting with the bipod on the bench, with the target at 100 yards. This was during sight in.

I'm satisfied with mine.;)

Ledbetter,

Good shooting!:what:

Looks like you have a very nice piece of wood on your rifle, too.

I looked at one of the .17s but ammo is still a little too scarce and expensive for me... Maybe someday.

Best,
Joe

Good.

Nextjoe, a guy with a 416 Rigby  complaining about ammo cost for a rimfire?

I know what you mean. When you pass 375 H&H factory ammo goes into the stratosphere as far as pricing. 375 is still in the 20 some buck range...

BigG,

I was waiting for someone to call me out on that :D

The difference, of course, is that I can reload the Rigby relatively cheaply, and I won't want to shoot it hundreds of times in one day, or I'd end up feeling like this little guy: :banghead:

Best,
Joe

nextjoe, you have a CZ .416?

I keep lusting for one, even though the stock is far too long for me.:)

tex_n_cal,

Yep, I posted a collection of pictures of it on the thread, "Manly CZ Rifles - Opinions Sought." Here's the direct link... click here

As far as the stock being too long, well, you can always make 'em shorter but it's really tough to make 'em grow :) If you want one, buy it and have it shortened. They're fun guns.

Best,
Joe

I can only comment on the CZ-452 Lux I've got (.22lr). It's very accurate, looks good and IMO well made. I had to have it custom ordered, and when it arrived, I had a hard time prying it out of the hands of the guys working at the sporting goods store. Uniformly, they thought it was a neat little rifle.

Were I in the market for a centerfire bolt-gun, I'd take a serious look at the CZ line.
