The 375 rule applies to dangerous game, and not in all countries. I believe it got started in Kenya when too many bwanas were getting stomped into wet spots by jumbos.
The place I hunted Eland now has a 375 rule. I don't think it's for safety, I think they got to argueing with too many clients over the trophy fee for the one that got away. I think the trophy fee for Eland is about $1,500 now. I could be wrong. On my first trip we had a 300 H&H Mag, a 7MM Wby Mag, a 300 Wby Mag and a 35 CJMK hand gun in camp and no game was lost.
