I don't visit this section much because my rifle knowledge is limited. But, when spring arrives I'd like to go after the groundhogs again. I've owned a bolt action 17 Marlin and 223 Remington, but I keep reading how good the CZ line is on the small varmints. So, let the opinions fly...which CZ (or other brand) and preferred caliber would you recommend on groundhogs out to 150 yards max?

OH25shooter;

My latest varmint set-up is the CZ527 in .223. It's topped with a Nikon Monarch that I got earlier this year when they were on closeout. It's a 4-12X A/O in the CZ rings & mounts that came with the gun.

I plan on using the gun as a walking varminter, and the platform has a lot of plus's going for it in that role. It's a light, handy, and accurate gun. It's easy to sling it over the shoulder & take an extended hike without feeling you've been on a 20 mile forced march in full ruck at the end of the day. The single-set trigger is a deal-making bonus feature all by itself in my opinion.

I'm a reloader and still fussing around with all the variables involved in working up loads, but without having settled on "the load", I can tell that the gun is certainly accurate enough for minute of groundhog out to 150 yards.

Go get one, you'll never regret it.

PS. This CZ ain't my first rodeo with varmint guns either.
