In NJ, it takes up to 30 days to get a pistol purchase permit which lasts only 90 days afterwards. So I usually get an extra one just in case... so before the extra one I got (picked up a nice S&W M18 with the first permit) expires, I'd like to get a CZ75 (been wanting one for a long time).

Honestly, I'll probably be shooting it with the Kadet Conversion Kit 90% of the time. .22 LR is safe and quiet enough to shoot on my property and in fact I only own .22 LR guns. I don't really forsee a need or use for my CZ75 as a defensive gun (it will spend its time locked in a gunsafe)... but it's likely to be the only non-.22 handgun I'll own (at least that's what I'm telling myself now... why do I have so many rifles?!).

So should I go for 9mm or .40s&w and why?

Regarding price, this was what I was quoted:
CZ75 - 9mm $ 419.99 40cal -$ 429.99 Kadet conv. is $ 270.00
(remember this is NJ...)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

OK........easy choice. IMO, since its not a defensive gun....9mm is the one choice. Ammo is 1/2 as much to buy, fun and easier to shoot than the 40 and has most of the energy of the S&W chambering if you do decide to defend yourself with it............9mm hi caps hold 15 - 16 rnds, the 40's only hold 12........
Just my .02$.........Shoot well.

Did you get a price on the actual Kadet Pistol? Should you like the .22,
you could get a 9mm or .40. At $270 for the Kadet Adapter..you could
prob buy a whole pistol for $150 more. This would give you two CZs.

You will see that the new issue of Guns & Ammo has the CZ75B as a
Best Buy. They show a .40 in the pics.

I'd get the 9x19mm. The ammo is cheaper, the gun was originally designed to be a 9mm, so the 9mm version is likely to be both more reliable and last longer, and if you are not going to use it as a defensive weapon anyway, there is really no advantage to having the .40. Save the $10.00.

Greetings PaladinX13,

I too live in NJ and share your frustrations. I've never shot the 9mm CZ, but I do own a CZ75BSA in .40. First off, one can not do better for a handgun in terms of what you get accuracy wise vs. cost. I have 11 pistols, the CZ being the cheapest one I have in my inventory, and it is without a doubt the most accurate. As for 9mm vs. .40. As I said the CZ I have is in .40. It is one of 3 handguns that I have ever fired in .40, that I like the feel/recoil characteristic/handling. The other 2 being the Sig 226 and 229. All that being said, my next handgun is the CZ75BSA in 9mm or the CZ P01.

Good luck
Ken

I have the CZ75BD in 9mm with the Kadet Kit. I shoot the .22 a lot. I just got the CZ75 Standard IPSC, the high end single action in .40. For a range gun the single action is great, and for the .22 conversion you don't want the Standard. I'd say go 9mm, SA or BD as you prefer with the Kadet Kit. Good tips on smoothing out the Kadet on the CZ forum.

My BD is not quite as accurate as my Sig 226 Stainless Stock, but is as accurate as my 9mm BHP & Glock 34. Oh, I put an adjustable sight on my BD, which then opens the idea of the 85 Combat.......

Get the 9mm. It's cheap to shoot and I find it a lot more fun that a .22. If the gun won't be used for defense there's no reason to get the .40. 9mm guns are relatively cheap to shoot and make you feel like you're shooting a gun instead of a loud pellet gun.

Thanks everyone for your help! I picked up my new CZ75 today and I don't think there's a smiley big enough to express how happy I am! :D

btw, forgive my ignorance, but my second magazine comes with some plastic thing on top of it and small green "beads" in the bag... what are these things? (the plastic thing that fits over the mag and the beads?)

accessories

The plastic thingy should be a mag loader. The small greeb beads are replacement "primers" for the snap cap they ship you.

Enjoy your new CZ.
