Hey y'all!

With some good news from the front office it looks like my VZ-24 will finally become the precision instrument it was meant to be.

Until now I was at the mercy of iron sights designed for a MINIMUM distance of 300m, and apparently for moderate power loads. With the hot Romanian surplus loads at 150gr, I think they were still on the rise at 200yds! They would strike the target a solid 2-3' above aimpoint, making it darn near impossible to use.

I've decided on a long eye relief scope (Leatherwood: hope the performance is better than the name...) that Midway stocks and an S&K custom VZ-24 rear sight mount. They are the only maker I know of that makes mounts especially for the VZ-24.

I'm really excited to finally see what the old girl can do; she's in fabulous condition and deserves to be my go-to bolt gun. Why go any further afield? Until now she's just been a good lookin' boomstick that I couldn't put on paper. Best of all, no permanent alterations!

So what kind of accuracy should I expect from the old dame? Thanks!

same setup here other than the scope. I'm still working with it but I will give you a warning. The screws that come with that s&k mount will shoot loose. I used a locking compound on mine, which I really hated to do, but now it holds it in real tight-like. One other thing I didn't anticipate was how hard it would be to get the mount into the sight leaf "ears". You should put the front of the mount in some sort of oil before you try to cram it into place. I REALLY like this gun... I hope you do as well. good luck.

Thanks Mr. Greene!

But I am hesitant: you had to make a permanent adhesion when you mounted the rear sight mount? I chose this route so that I wouldn't have to make permanent alterations to the gun. Is the locking compound considered permanent? Any pics? Thanks again!
