Hi,

I have been some research on Czech/Czechoslovakian weapons and I'm really impressed with the military and sporting designs.

The CZ 75, vz 58, vz 24 Mauser, Brno .22 rifles, CZ 550 sporting rifles just to name a few.

Anybody have a source for more info on gun making in the former Czechoslovakia?

I don't think they're underrated. I don't personally like the designs, but that's more a preference issue. I think the CZ 75 is probably one of the most popular pistols.

Czech has a history of fine weapons as far back as WW II. The ZB37 design is pretty spectacular. :)

I think CZ's are some of the best and most reliable pistols in todays market. The CZ 75 series of pistols fit your hand like you should have been born with it in your hand. I also have an older (1987) CZ 82 chambered in 9x18 round that is just incredable. It is by far the best $200 I ever spent on a pistol. My next pistol will be a (Nato approved) CZ-PO-1 or PCR. I'm a big fan of how they fit your hand, there reliability, and there natural pointability. Although I've never had to use them I hear there CS is quite good.

Underrated? I've seen no sign of that.

Underrepresented in military and law enforcement roles? Probably so.

Holy crap they have some cool toys in that factory. :)

The laser sighting tool for the handguns was pretty neat.

And ... I want the handgun they showed that goes "BRRRRRP"

Underrated? Not at all. Rarely if ever do I hear bad things about them.

Now, they aren't used as often as Glock, Springfield, or S&W and the like so I would say they are relatively unknown to a large part of the US public.

If more people were to use them, then I expect that they would gain popularity very quickly.

Seems like most people have experience with their handguns, but what about the rifles?

True, and under the communists everything was branded as Brno.

I'm sorry, was somebody playing my song? :)

I have been a CZ guy for some years now, and almost, (not all), the guns we have are CZs. This is my carry pistol, the CZ SP-01 Phantom.

I am fond of the rifles, too, that's for certain! My CZ 527M carbine in 7.62x39mm, for example,

And my son's CZ 452 Scout .22lr rifle,

Now, just to keep history straight, the factory at Uhersky Brod does NOT make the SA vz-58 rifles imported into the US, such as mine, 7.62x39mm on the left, 5.56mm on the right.

Those are being made by Czech Small Arms in the Czech Republic and imported by CzechpointUSA. Also, the current company, CZUB, was born in 1992, and unfortunately has nothing to do with the venerable but very cool vz-24 Mauser rifles.

The 550 series are excellent, but if you really want to see the whole lineup, call 1-800-955-4486, and request a catalog - the lineup just keeps getting better...:)

If you like the SA vz-58 rifles, let me introduce you...

And the extra nifty Kadet Kit Adapter on my CZ 75 P-01. Just finished this video, hope you like it.

Short or long magazine? Single stack ten round mag is pretty short and thin. The regular rifles come with 30 round mags standard, depending on where you live. For that price, most likely it's a Century vz2008. That's also too high - J&G usually runs them for about $100 less.

Not underrated to me. I have a CZ527 Varmint, a CZ75 SP-01 and I just picked up a CZ82 from J&G Sales this week up in Prescott. I love CZs.

Underrated? Depends on who you ask. I have 7 CZ pistols, 5 CZ rimfire rifles, and 3 centerfire CZ rifles.

I only have about ten CZ rifles and pistols but they are good guns.

The only problem I've seen is the old CZ52 firing when the hammer drop thumb safety is pushed ON. (hole through my shop wall)

As a previous post stated, underrepresented is much more appropriate than underrated. I personally love my 75D Compact, aka PCR, as well as (unfortunately this is past tense) the 452 "Training Rifle." That rifle could shoot the whisker off a gnat. :D

They just don't sell the cool ones here.
