My father was lucky enough to have grown up in Edmonton Albera Canada. He learned to shoot, hunt, fish, and trap. He told me about how his father had given him a 22 and a box or shells, and told him, "you keep us in meat and I will keep you in ammo". He said he learned to make the first shot count.
He had a custom P-17 Enfield built many, many, many years ago. His favorite saying was if you have an 06 you don't need anything else. Every fall before hunting season, we would site in our guns. He had an old Weaver 3x-9x scope on it with a post rectical. That was 45 years ago. He only shot one time each time. He nevershot for the x. He said the head of the nail that held the target was more of a challenge. In the 25 years we hunted together he never missed.
He ended up having that gun stolen. That really effected him. I was able to buy another Enfield 06 for him, that he used for the last few years he was able to hunt. Those were some of the best times of my life. Sometimes we don't know what we had till we loose it. We should pass these on to all we can.
