My father was lucky enough to have grown up in Edmonton Albera Canada. He learned to shoot, hunt, fish, and trap. He told me about how his father had given him a 22 and a box or shells, and told him, "you keep us in meat and I will keep you in ammo". He said he learned to make the first shot count.
He had a custom P-17 Enfield built many, many, many years ago. His favorite saying was if you have an 06 you don't need anything else. Every fall before hunting season, we would site in our guns. He had an old Weaver 3x-9x scope on it with a post rectical. That was 45 years ago. He only shot one time each time. He nevershot for the x. He said the head of the nail that held the target was more of a challenge. In the 25 years we hunted together he never missed.
He ended up having that gun stolen. That really effected him. I was able to buy another Enfield 06 for him, that he used for the last few years he was able to hunt. Those were some of the best times of my life. Sometimes we don't know what we had till we loose it. We should pass these on to all we can.

Have a customized one similiar to the pic. Bought it from an older gent from SC. Sure shoots accurately. Have never added a scope. Do not use it for hunting but would not hesitate to do so. Supposedly Sgt. Alvin York used one in his Medal of Honor episode against the German machine gun nests.

Got a couple. Some bubba jobs and an original in military dress. I hope my remodels on the bubba guns come out a nice a your dads. That's a very nice sporter, and a good life story :)

Yeah, shootin with the old man has been a blast. Likewise he never missed - period. He backed us up shootin clays and at the end of the day he was 100% on his AND our misses :what:

But Pop is 92 now and in a chair most of the time, so the last deer he got was last year. No more - too bad :(

Still have the fond memories though and he can still tell me about care and feeding for the older guns :)
