I just picked up a Daewoo DH in .40 S&W. Looks to be in excellent shape. $299 out the door at the local pawn shop. I haven't shot it yet, but plan to latter today. Does anyone know anything about this particular pistol?

You picked out a real nice pistol at a good price. The sidearm of the South Korean armed forces. Your .40SW, as you observed, is a 11 + 1 rounds. You will like & get used to the "tri-action" trigger...
I have used mostly FMJ; but handles JHP's with no problem...Hope you enjoy it & give us a pic & range report when you can....:)

Hi guys, thanks for the response.

No pics. yet but I did enjoy my range session. The Woo.40 gobbled up all the Winchester whitebox FMJ without pause. Also went through some federal JHP and Winchester JHP as well without a hickup. It shot nice groups and felt really comfortable to shoot, although it is going to take a bit to get used to the Tri-action safety. Break down and cleaning was a breeze! The downside is it came with only one magazine and replacements I found out are not cheap. I found a new factory magazine on the net for $45 and from what I can tell that's the going rate so I ponied up and bought it. Thanks again for the input!

I've had several, including a 9mm version that I traded away. The 9mm was particularly accurate. (Its a smidgen smaller than the .40 version; they apparently didn't build the .40 on the same frame.

Good solid guns. If you haven't noticed, they have a tri-action trigger.

Hammer down (double-action) start, with safety if you want, cocked and locked, or cock it, and push the hammer forward, to hammer down. Its then cocked, but you must pull the trigger to complete the cycle. The trigger stages, and its lighter than DA but heavier than SA, and very predictable.

Finding mags for the .40 is a problem. I've got a couple. Keep you eyes open at gun shows. If you're desperate, you can make SW 59 mags work, if you open the feed lips a bit. (They're fully compatible on the 9mm version.)

what doesn't daewoo make? cars tvs construction equipment guns go figure

Oh gawd....

Search is your friend. I started several DH-40 threads when I bought mine a little over a year ago. Sold it, for various reasons.

Pros:
Accurate

Ergonomic

Fast-Action hammer was really cool

Good sights

Better than average trigger

Cons:

Large frame size should accommodate more rounds, say 14+1

Lack of aftermarket support

OEM mags verrrrrrrrrry rare... S&W 5900's do work, but don't sit as flush

Every magazine would result in at least one FTE. The damn claw would just slip right off of the cartridge rim, no matter what ammo I used. I tried adjusting the claw... it didn't help. Keeping the claw ridiculously clean (like after every 30-40 rounds) helped, but didn't eliminate the problem. FTE's are the worst malfunction to get... they take a long time to clear.

I ended up trading it in on a Taurus 24/7 in 9mm, and never looked back. It is still sitting in a pawn shop shelf here in Myrtle Beach. I just couldn't trust my life to a pistol with that kind of unreliability.

You know, I have a Daewoo monitor, a Daewoo TV, and owned a Daewoo car (a 36+ mpg wonder which I still miss terribly). Friends tease me about being Mr. Daewoo so maybe I should pick up a Daewoo gun as well :neener:

My friend has the .40 and it is a well-made gun, but really better for somebody with large hands. The Korean military uses the 9mm version and I suspect the grip is smaller on it. But I don't know that. Anybody know the whole story on grip size?

The S&W 5900 mags work in the 9mm version, I'm told, but when we compared one to the Daewoo .40 magazine it didn't look like it would fit. We didn't try bubba-izing on the 9mm magazine to make it fit, since we had borrowed it.

I have only ever seen 10-round magazines for the Daewoo .40, due to the thrice-cursed Clinton ban. Has anybody seen Daewoo .40 magazines with any more than 10 round capacity?

hankdatank,

Sounds like yours was a real stinker, sometimes you get one like that.

So far I am pleased with mine. It came with an 11 round magazine and has functioned flawlessly. I have small hands but have been able to shoot it very well. The one thing I do not care for is the small safeties.

Thanks for all the input gentlemen, I appreciate it.

I believe Century International Arms still imports them.

Yeah, they originally came with factory hi-caps that held a whopping 11 rounds.
