A police officer waiting at a traffic light at the intersection witnessed the shootings and stopped to help when the second car crashed, police Sgt. Gil Cerda said. Police policy prohibited the officer from pursuing the fleeing vehicle because he already had a prisoner from an unrelated case in his back seat, Geron said.

Prisoner or no prisoner...........police have feelings too!

I don't know if I were that cop and had just witnessed such a brazen display of fire power, that I would want to go chasing a car into the night and head first into muzzle flash.

If I understand it, bullet proof vests don't provide cover for your head.

RRTX, I am glad you know the difference, but that doesn't preclude the news people from how they report things. It is rare that I hear them report "semiautomatic" as a type of gun. Even pistols get reported as automatic.

If you recall to the Tyler incident, the reporters were all talking about Arroyo firing an automatic weapon and/or automatic assault rifle. The funny thing was that footage from inside the courthouse had audio for th firing outside. The slow rate of fire gave no indication that it was an auto-firing gun. It was definitely faster than a hand loaded single shot bolt gun and faster than a pump gun, but not auto firing.

And if you check the news, you will see that it does in fact appear to be an assault weapon, possibly AK47

I would not imagine too many Jaguars on the streets in Dallas
Guess you never been to Dallas then. They are all over the place along with every other luxury car you can imagine, esp. in that area of town.

Yep, and the same folks could probably legally afford a full-auto rifle. But, I doubt the gun was full-auto, much less operated by someone who went thru the hoops to legally own one.

I spent most of the day out of town in the woods yesterday, so this is "new news" to me. Gonna turn on the tube and see what's happening there this morning ...

Edited to add: Local Fox channel sez suspected Jaguar located. LEOs investigating timeline related to prior assault incident at adjacent pub ...

When did Jaguars become popular in Texas?

Thought folks with money there liked other stuff.

Very possible that it was in fact a machine gun, illegally modified of course. They should make a law against that sort of thing.

This particular part of Dallas is not exactly the ghetto..

Highland Park/SMU is most decidedly high-end, you will see every model BMW/Jag/Mercedes/Land Rover/Caddy/etc produced foreign or abroad.

SMU ain't a cheap school and the folks that go there have scholarships or folks with deep pockets. The surrounding area is full of nice homes, even the older homes are spectacular. Great place to drive around and see how "the other half lives"

What makes this news worthy is the area it happened in more than the details of the case.

Be interesting to see what comes out.

Sun roofs for gunmen ?? Not new at all. There is a british movie made in the thirties where the BGs drive along and out of the sun roof they shoot someone in a second story apartment !!

Hmmm...that doesn't sound like random violence to me. Someone wanted them dead. Perhaps they ran afoul of, or were involved with, Mexican drug traffickers?

The clubs along Yale Blvd and Greenville Ave area (as mentioned in the news story) were always nice when I hung out in the area in my younger days. That's where all the young rich college kids hung out, and we would try to pick up young rich college girls. Usually didn't work out so hot though. We drove the wrong type of cars.

Forgot to add this:

There aren't too many Mexican drug traffickers in that area. Sad to say, but the only Hispanics you probably see in that area are doing labor of some sort. Not too many go through there after dark, with the exception of Mockingbird lane which is a main thoroughfare from Love Field area to 75. Actually you don't see many minorities at all. IIRC they had the first black family move into the area and it made their little community paper. I used to be stationed in that area and even though the neighborhoods were beautiful, some of the personalities left much to be desired.

Dallas Morning News had two lengthy articles which I read at lunch. 3 victims had been at Jack's Pub that sponsors a "party" every Monday night for employess of eating establishments who must work on Friday and Saturday nights. $2 drinks, $4 pitchers. Notorious for brawls on Monday nights. Lots of security, particularly in parking lot during last few hours of "party".

3 dudes involved in one brawl where someone got cut were ejected around 1:00 p.m. Jaguar seen leaving Jack's Pub parking lot in pursuit of victims around 2:00 a.m.

All 3 victims were employed by other food/drink establishments. One a cook, one a cashier, and the "designated driver", a bouncer - with prior ag. assault charge related to incident over someone leaving a bar with a certain female.

Enough said for somewhat less speculation?

Update from 6:00 p.m. TV news

Channel 5 (NBC) sez it's been determined that the owner of the Jag could not have been in the car. He was in Baylor hospital at the time being treated for injuries received in brawl. Supposedly "cooperating" with investigation.
