I have a 1960's Daly (Miroku Firearms) o/u 20 ga shotgun which I have not shot in awhile. The tube choke markings are ++ and +-, and I have forgotten what choke these markings refer to. Can anyone help on this? Also with these choke settings, is it safe to use steel shot? Actually does anyone know if it is safe to use steel shot at all with this gun?

Also, after firing from one barrel, the gun used to automatically move over to the other barrel for my second shot. Now I am unable to fire the second shot without manually switching over. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

Thanks. Whit

Is this a recoil-select or mechanical-select trigger?

If it's recoil-select, then it might just need to be cleaned and oiled.

How to find out, if you don't know:

Put in some snap caps. Close the gun. Pull the trigger. Slam the butt down HARD against something non-marring. Pull the trigger again. If it doesn't work, hit it HARDER. If it works then, take the action apart and clean it. Old oil might have gotten all sticky in there.:)

Thanks for the info and advice. Smacking the butt on the floor clicked over to the next barrel so I guess it is a recoil-select. Any idea how to remove the housing for the action from the stock so I can try to clean it out? I can't find any screws etc. Whit

Hmmm...

That's about the extent of my knowledge when it comes to your specific gun. Usually, though, if you remove the butt plate/pad, you will find a big bolt or nut that holds the buttstock on. That's a start, but a poor one probably.

However, you may find a manual on the web if you search enough. That's a reason to favor the most common guns; Remington and Ruger manuals can be downloaded in their entirety.

A good alternative is to look for an exploded drawing, used for parts ordering. Check http://www.e-gunparts.com/ first. Their main list is by manufacturer.

Note also that this same gun might have been imported, sometimes with slightly different trim, by others. Miroku has made guns for damn near everyone, like Winchester, High Standard (I think), Daly as you know, Browning, and I don't know who else.

choke markings are ++ and +-

Most likely Modified and Improved Modified. The Daly list I have uses ** and *-, but I'd bet that's what they are.
