Damn good job getting that bird on the ground. I hate flying but I think I would fly with those guys anyday.

[sarcasm] They are just lucky it wasn't a 50BMG. [\sarcasm]

Notice the comments re the structural damage. Airbus structure is made of composites (plastic) to a great extent. Wonder if they can fix it or will have to just write it off. Nevertheless, GREAT airmanship!

P. S. Don't have any idea of how the missiles' nasty little brains are programmed, but do know that the turbofans used in most airliners these days have such large bypass ratios that their exhaust ain't all that hot.

yeah, thats why I remember *hearing* from somewhere that the wings themselves look hotter to a seaker than the engines...

I would like to clarify on that... hmmm

A300-B4 has hydraulic servos for the ailerons.
Generally, fly-by-wire means hyd servos are electronicly controled/actuated
Was told the aircraft is being scrapped.
A few feet inboard and it would've been worse.
If it was a DC8, missle would've bounced off!

I wonder if Airbus will redesign their A300 hydraulic circuits...

Since one hit in the left outboard wing area bled all three hydraulic systems dry. Even the MD-80/DC-10 fleet was reworked after the Sioux City accident.
