Could someone share his experience with Dan Wesson 1911 pistol.
I've read very good articles about it's Patriot and other, but I trust more first hand experience of fellow THR member.

Thank you

My friend has a DW Patriot Expert that is rarely cleaned & oiled, but which always shoots everything it is fed. He has done very well with it in a Tactical Shooting League he is in. In the unlikely event that he decides to sell it, I have first dibs on it.

A lot of people on the 1911 forum have had issures with current DW products, but I have had more than a few turns with this one, and if you can get one as good, get it!

Which DW 1911? The Patriot?

Stephen Camp wrote an extensive review which is over on 1911forum:

And 191forum has a forum dedicated to DW:

Here's what I wrote about mine:

My Patriot (PTE) has been a workhorse, with few operational problems. I have to remove the external extractor and clean the channel once every 3,000 rounds. The trigger is a little creepy.

I love my DW Razorbacks. Yes they did have a couple of quirks but nothing that I havent had from other manufactures. I own 4 Razorbacks, 2 of them work great right out of the box the other 2 needed some tweaking to feed and eject reliably. Nothing major just extractor adjustment and minor polishing. But they are the tightest and most accurate 1911's I own.
For what its worth they are probably the most accurate hanguns I have ever owned.

A friend of mine recently bought one. I didn't quiz him on reliability, and he's not a high-round-count kind of guy anyway, but he did mention that it was probably the most accurate pistol he'd ever owned.

The lower end guns are essex cast, some guns have what ever was in the shop at the time. The upper end guns generally have a good barrel, slide and frame fit but with some junky parts. (like the masson mag release) alot have needed tweeking or repair also.

If you do buy one, get it from Lew Horton for a more realistic price. Bren

My Razorback needed a couple of minor tweeks to run perfectly, but the factory paid round trip shipping and had my pistol back in 7 days. It has been absolutely flawless and extremely accurate ever since. My pistol was proofed at 50' to a five shot group of .82".

I have a DW Patriot, blued steel, five inch gov't, forged slide and frame, external extractor and it's one heck of a shooter. Not one single ftf, blip, zilch. Excellent construction!
