Dan Wesson 44

Been shooting Dan Wesson Revolvers for many years and own all of the calibers in blue steel. A friend recently offered to sell me a complete set of stainless 44 barrels for a song. I never thought about mixing blue and stainless DW revolver parts before. Anyone know of a reason why I shouldn't do this?

It will just look like Hell. Honestly, in certainly pistol platforms i.e. 1911's mixing blued and stainless parts can look good, depending on how it's been done. With a Dan Wesson all you're doing is changing out the barrel shroud and next thing you know you've got a revolver that looks like Frankenstein's monster, it just doesn't fit. The only thing that MIGHT work is mixing and matching the trigger and/or hammer.

But this is all just my $0.02 which is as good and worse as anyone elses.

Sounds like a good excuse to start keeping your eyes open for a lonely one-barrel stainless .44.

Also -- Post some pics here on THR of the Franken guns. I bet they'll look pretty cool.

I think a blue gun with a stainless cylinder looks cool ... but that's about as far as the mix and match goes and still looks good.

One of the guys on the Dan Wesson forum has a model 14 like that.



(apparently he's packing it regularly with the 2.5" barrel)





If you get the stainless .44 barrels real cheap you can certainly find one of the guys on the Dan Wesson Forum that will trade them for similar barrels in blue.

Or if nothing else you can have the barrel shrouds blackened ... or just live with the franken gun look.

If someone offered me a full set of barrels for my DW .44 for a song, I'd be going....me, me, me, me to get my voice tuned up and cut loose. To heck with how the SS bbls would look on my blue frame. I'm not all that purty either.

Who cares how it looks, it's how those great DWs shoot that counts. If the cost is good,buy them. Darn if they were pink i would probably get the barrels . If you don't want them many others will.

Well, aesthetics aside, I was actually wondering about mechanical reasons. I know that on Contenders, some parts are not interchangeable between the blue and stainless. I just wanted to be sure that no such situation existed here. I couldn't care less how it looked.

Ah ... well that's actually a good question then ... I'm betting that there is not difference between the blue and SS other than material but I could be wrong.

This would be an excellent question over on the Dan Wesson forum ... There's guys over there that know these pistols better than Dan himself.

I have seen a 357 that had the barrels swapped and shot so all should work.

I once owned a SS Dan Wesson .22lr revolver and swapped between blue and SS bbls/shrouds without any problems. Sure wish I had kept it. If for some reason I had to give up all my guns but one, I'd keep my Dan Wesson .44 Mag and bbls.
I also do it on my SS TC Contender frames.
