Do any of you know where you could get a cylinder rebuild done for a Dan Wesson Revolver??

I found a real nice Monson .357 but the lock up and end shake on the cylinder tell me it is in need of a repair.

I have sent Dan Wesson a note but I don't think they fix the old Monson era revolvers anymore.

Anybody have an idea as to what this kind of work would cost??

Thanks!

If it is a model 15 (not the "pork chop" type barrel shroud) I expect they will fix it since they are still making new model 15's. If it is one of the old pork chop models, they may or may not be able to fix it.

DW should (or used to) fix old Monson's. Give them a call. I would be very surprised if they would not take care of you.

Just remember, no warantee on the older Monson's. They are doing it because the parts "fit".

I have ordered parts for my Monson's that just drop right in. No problems from the current manufacturer.

I have sent a note off to DW to see what they have to say.

I discussed the pistol with another smith friend. The serial number on this particular one is just five digits probably making it a very early 71, 72 era pistol.

He said the only problem is the "hand" is not readily available. The rest of the work was not a big deal. He told me if the hand was repairable then not a problem but if not don't buy it in the first place.

The pawn shop wants $200 and won't budge. I think I am going to let it go.

They sure are pretty revolvers though :)

$200 for a DW 357 that doesn't work is too high. Good condition DW's usually go for aroun $250 to $300. Keep looking, it sounds like this DW might have been abused.

Well I did get a reply from DWF on repairing the pistol.

I had asked for a range, they said $100 to $400. Between the low cost and shipping I could probably find a pristine version of the same revolver.

I'll just keep looking.

$400? That must be for the repair of a gun with a stretched or cracked frame! For $400 you can find a brand new, fresh from the factory, pay the gunshop his full asking price DW 357!
