Dan Wesson Revolvers with interchangable barrels

For $700, I would grab it up. The barrels alone are worth that. The gun itself a freebie!

I just bought a 4" 15-2VH for $375. It's about 30 years old, and is in great shape. I grabbed a 6" VH barrel too, so now I have a 715 with 4" and 6" barrels and the 15-2 with 4" and 6" barrels too. I bought the 715 for $269 in almost new condition in 2005, and the extra barrel was a whopping $62. The $375 for the gun and $177 for the barrel shows how the price of DW stuff has taken off.

Personally, there is no revolver made that I would pick over a decent DW.

DW prices have soared in the past two years. The DW does have a different feel, I got used to the latch location pretty fast. They respond to a trigger job like any DA revolver. Heffron Arms does excellent work on DW's.

I have a model 15 with a 4" barrel I picked up out of a pawn shop in the late 90's. I think I gave around $100 dollars for it. The finish was pretty beat up was why I got it so cheap. It is a sweet shooting revolver. I wish I had a six inch barrel for it.

Someone has one with a 6" barrel for sale over at rugerforum.com in the classifieds now for $350 IIRC. I wish someone would buy it as it keeps calling to me & I really don't have the money right now.

Why, you can buy a brandy new one fron CZ for less.

Yep-but that link is for a barrel & shroud. The one I'm talking about is the whole gun. After you figured in shipping it would be less than $50 dollars more to get the whole thing & the finish looks nice.

If/when I get more prosperous again I need to start watching the auction sites & see if I can pick up some more barrels & shrouds for the one I've already got. The addiction gets to me sometimes though.

Well if we're gonna play show and tell here's my model 14-2 snubbie ... great CCW piece (even as large and heavy as it is ... my Simply Rugged Sourdough helps).

Ooops..missed that part. I already have one with a 6" barrel, so the 4" is what I'm after. To that end, I did order one today from CZ. Came to $265.61 delivered... for a brandy new 4" barrel and shroud. :)

DW's are great old guns. Never had an issue with the Model 15 or Supermags in the safe. The latch is something you get used to and forces you to use both hands in reloading. It's a little slower than a Colt/Smith/Ruger/Taurus but not by much.

Accuracy is excellent.

DO NOT TAKE THEM APART COMPLETELY with every cleaning. There is no need to re-tension the barrel with every shooting session. I suspect its the biggest mistake new DW owners commit.

Leather can be hard to find, but not impossible. Grip frame is small which means you can really make some exotic grips and grip angles. (See Zund's for example.)

They haven't held their value like Smiths and Colts and if you keep an eye out you can get a model 15 for under $300.

That's more than I paid for a brand new 15-2V in 1978!!!!!
Safariland used to make excellent duty holsters for the DW's...maybe they make some for concealed carry?
I have a 6-inch ventilated barrel if anyone has a 4-inch they want to trade. Finish on my mine is good...some might want to reblue it or leave it the way it is...the barrel itself is perfect.

Perhaps so, but that was 32 years ago!! I'm just happy they're still available, and who knows for how long? ;)

BTW the grip on mine came from here http://lbcustomgrips.com/

Mine is the protoype for the "Speed Grip" and is based on an idea I had for adding a Tyler T Grip to a DW Combat grip (which I still plan on doing soon) The grip angle change was Larrys ... I really like it (although I really really wish Larry did checkering because it could use a little extra gripiness).

I would not mind a nice wood grip for show but to use hot loads i will stay with a hogue soft rubber grip. I never could find a wood grip i could hold on to while shooting the 15-2 and i bought there combat grip back in the 70's and only used a time or two and it somewhere in a box around here. . But some of the aftermarket guys sure use some purty woodon there grips. And atleast with nice leather holster could be found by most any holster company for a s&w mid sized 6 shoot revolvers.
