So I was over visiting with some family and talking about my late grandpa and how he loved his guns. So then my aunt says well hey I think I have an old gun case of grandpas that is locked but I think it's empty and the keys are long gone. then she says that I'm welcome to have it if I want to use it. So of course I say I'll take it. Well I get home and notice that it feels to heavy to be empty... So I google picking a suitcase lock... And presto it's open. Much to my surprise and excitement it's a Dan Wesson 357 mag with four barrels!!!! Wow what could be cooler than finding a gun untouched for 25 years that was forgotten plus it was my grandpas!!!

That is all

Today was a good day

I'll post some pics tommorow.

I really like the double action on a Dan Wesson...short and snappy.
7th gen. in Austin? That's great.
My family has been in Houston since the late 1840's.
Came down from Massachusetts. (Lord, they were yankees!)

Good morning
If that case is Aluminum colored on the outside and yellow material inside that is a DW case with the "Pistol pack" inside. These are good finds. Was the barrel tool inside ? Funny looking wrench type.
DW revolvers are about as good as it comes. Bought my first in 1978 and will never sell one till I cannot pick them up any longer.

I have never wanted one, but if someone handed me a case like that that belonged to my Grandfather, I would cherish it for life simply because of who it belonged to...

Nice find, and congrats!

Now we need pics...

I would cherish it as well.

After, of course, I let my aunt know the case she gave me wasn't empty. Let her have the chance to give you the gun.

Wow that's a nice surprise and you got a great revolver too! Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Yep 7th generation in Austin Texas. Part of my family came to Texas when it was still its own country.

I called my aunt as soon as I opened it and she was thrilled for me and just said enjoy it!

Yep has the wrench and the barrel shim and what look like rubber o rings.

The case is brown textured plastic with an aluminum frame.

I'll clean it up today and get those pictures

Nice job and congrads on the DW. Great guns! I have to run over to Austin this week for a meeting. You are lucky to live there.

Over in Houston we call Austin "Mecca of Texas".

That's like a dream come true! You are so fortunate to have this happen. I absolutely love my DW .357. Cherish it indeed. Looking forward to those pics!

Great story! I love these surprise gun finds! Very cool that the unassuming old briefcase actually held such a treasure from your grandfather.

Very nice find! Gramp had good taste.

It looks like the fabric that should be covering the foam may be missing on yours.

I NEVER liked Dan Wessons.
That is, until I handled and fired one.
Then, I HAD to have one.
They are fantastic shooting guns.

If only I could find 4", 6", and 8" barrels for my early DW (HS Sentinel Mk 3).

yeah the trigger pull for single action is AMAZING!!! can't wait to take it to the range this week … ill report back with how it shots.

Great gun and find. Bet you will be thinking of your grandpa every time you shoot. clean, or just hold the gun. I do. Have fun and bangaway.

You have a Dan Wesson Pistol-Pac. Very valuable. The "shim" is a
little tool to set the barrel/cylinder gap when the barrel has been
removed and replaced. The barrels and shrouds are quite valuable
by themselves ($150-$200 ea.). Enjoy your treasure.

Might want to get some fabric between that foam & the metal. Foam holds moisture & isn't really great for storage. I've seen some pretty nasty pitting from it. Maybe gun socks or Bore-Store.
