Im looking to buy my first AR 15 and have been looking at the daniel defense m4 model V3. Does anybody own this model or any have experience with it or any other daniel defense AR's?

It gets great reviews, has pretty much any feature you would want, and has a midlength gas system which, for a 16" barrel AR, most are coming to prefer over the M4/carbine length system. And it's fairly reasonably priced if you get it from Bud's Gun Ship for $1150 or so. It would be a fairly high-end entry into the AR world but it's unlikely you would ever feel the need to upgrade any significant component of it.

Depending what you want, there are significantly less expensive rifles to consider. But if you really want the hammer-forged barrel and the free-float quadrail, the M4v3 is possibly the best buy right now.

I just replaced my BCM 16 inch Middy training gun with a 14.5 inch DD v3.

Great shooting gun. Light, soft shooting and fast like a cat.

Thanks! Ya I checked out Bud's and they are out of stock right now but hopefully they will be in stock soon. It seems like a sweet deal. Im not sure what kind of optic i want to run on it though.

Also don't forget the Smartgunner deal. If you are willing to build your lower you can get the whole thing done for well under a grand.

Sweet pic!

Thank you. I love the gun. The upper is a factory DD upper. The lower is a DD lower built myself with a DD parts kit. I saved a few hundred over buying the complete gun and didn't have to worry about NFA junk. And I paid more than I would have through the Smargunner deal.

How hard would it be to build the lower myself? This will be my first AR. Will I have to have parts sent to a FFL dealer?

That is a hard question to answer. What kind of tools do you have? What is your level of mechanical aptitude? I have built dozens even before I had the proper tools.

Well I consider myself mechanically inclined but ive never built an AR before. Im not sure as to what sort of tools i would need.

The lower receiver is very easy to assemble if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. The only modestly challenging parts are the rollpins. If you get proper rollpin punches, they are fairly easy to install.

Not sure whether I would really recommend building a lower for your first-ever AR, but it is fairly easy to do.

Cant go wrong with a Daniel Defense. If you are skeptical about building the lower check out the blemmish lower deal from Bravo Company (BCM). Complete lowers in perfect mechanical shape, just have a scratch somewhere on it, for 270 bucks.

I've owned several makes of AR's over the years, Colt, Bushmaster, Armalite, Stag and Daniel Defense and of all of them them my favorite so far has been the Daniel Defense M4XV. I have never been more satisfied with an AR than with my DD, buy one you won't regret it!

IMHO the top few contenders in the mainstream AR market right now would be Colt, LMT, Daniel Defense and BCM.

On a side note my experience with Daniel Defense was proof enough to me that their customer service is superb!

I have a DDM4 v1 and I love it. It's been a great gun.

I bought my DD soon after they came out, and before the midlength was available. If I was buying one today, I would get the v3.

If you can find one for around that buds price, pull the trigger. Buds has had them in stock fairly recently so just keep your eye on them or add it to your buds wish list.

Ok. So I picked up my new DD M4v3 at a local gun shop last week. :D
I'll try and post some pics up on here soon and let you know how she shoots

I'm sure you well be pleased with your choice. After you have stripped this down a few time, changed a part or two, you well see just how easy these are to build. A armors wrench, some pin punches and a few home made tools well cover about all you need. Download a current copy of this Army manual, ARMY TM 9-1005-319-23&P, it covers repair and special tools you can fabricate. For me the hardest thing to build on an AR is the forward pivot pin detent, I've launched a few in low earth orbit.

There's a $3.00 tool from Model 1 Sales that makes that task a breeze. Worth it for even one build.

I have had good luck using an exacto knife to install the front pin. Mind you one of these days I know I am going to slice my hand open doing it.
