Okay, I know that I've been one of the loudest proponents of the "I carry a 5" steel 1911 every day" around here, but I have a confession to make.

Recently I came into possession of a Springfield Armory Lightweight Loaded that already had a few tweaks (stubby GI guide rod.) I added a few of my own (STI long trigger, alloy flat 20-lpi checkered MSH, Carbon Creations grips), and danged if this thing hasn't become my purt' near every day carry gun for several reasons, some nonsensical and some reasonable:

    1) It's a buttload cheaper to replace than my other two "heavy rotation" carry guns: a stainless Delta Elite and a Springer Pro.
    2) At any reasonable combat distance and tempo (~15yds or less, shooting rapidly to slide lock with carry ammo) I shoot it more or less as well as the Delta or Pro.
    3) It sure is sexy looking (one customer already asked "What is that? Darth Vader's personal 1911?" and ordered a set of Carbon Creation grips on the spot.
    4) If I'm on my feet all day, it's more comfortable to tote than an all-steel gun. I didn't realize I felt any discomfort from the heavier pistols until I started toting this one. Best of all, it's the same size, so I'm giving up very little.
    5) Skunkabilly would soil his trousers and offer a marriage contract at the very sight of a two-tone 1911 with carbon fiber grips, night sights, an aluminum mainspring housing, and a polycarbonate & titanium trigger. :D

    Anyhow, here's a pic...

Well, go ahead and have Darth Vader's helmet engraved on the slide. Maybe crossed lightsabers on the opposite side and a little gold inlay to round it out. :)

    But... but...

If Darth carried that, there would have been no movies because lil' Luke would have been chompin' at the bit to move in with dear ole dad to shoot his lightweight 1911.

    :D

Pretty sweet... but dontcha find those grips just a tad bit... sharp?

    ummmm...I think Smoke would too.

I'm not into Carbon Fiber and polycarbonate doo hickeys, or titanium thang-a-ma-bobs...but that is a nice looking gun!

As others have said, very nice looking gun. Funny it comes up as I've been meaning to ask what you carried ever since the 1911 bug bit me. Unfortunately, I've been having problems with mine... time to upgrade.

    Cheers!

That is really, really nice. And I normally don't like two-tone pistols.

Wonder if Carbon Creations can do a set of grips with a Delta Elite logo on them?
