I was wondering if anyone had a book for S&W? I have a 29-2 I am looking to sell, and do not know too much about it. Nickle plated, 8.4 inch barrel, target trigger and hammer, missing rear sight.
serial number n683xxx. I'll put pictures up in a while.
Thanks for any info

I have one of those, exact same setup actually. Pristine condition. When taken to Gander Mountain for pricing as part of an estate sell off last spring they offered 435 for it. I have read they offer 2/3rds of book value. I have no idea of book value. I know the nickel is less popular (but not to me, I love it!)

Rear sight via S&W is about $90 from what I have read.

I have also heard that the nickle is worth more because they made less, but if this gun were blue I would not be looking to sell it. I bought it a few years ago when a friend needed money. Now I need a shotgun.

rcmodel,

That one is nicer than mine, 6 inch barrel! I also have about 100 rounds, plus reloading dies for 44 special/mag.

If I were to sell mine I would ask 750 and take 650, the first time I put it on Armslist & at the conservation club. Note I still don't know the book value, this is based on what I think it would sell for.

If! (big if) your gun has not been drilled and tapped for a scope, I would get the sight from S&W installed and sell it as a working piece.

If it has been drilled and tapped I would probably not even try to sell it. (And if it was bubba'd when that was done I would cry.)

I love shooting mine, love taking it to the range, and will start hunting with it (when I am proficient with it.) Of note, It is light--in comparison to a Super Red Hawk. One day my eyes will require a red dot and then I will have to stop hunting with it.

There was a scope mount and an xtra hole drilled. It is small and will be covered by the rear sight. According to previous owner, it also had a trigger job. It is surprisingly a joy to shoot. BUt I have not shot it in over a year. I also just do not like shiny guns. I looked into stripping the nickle plating and having it parkerized, but it seemed like a lot of work.

I tried and had it with a smith for six weeks and he never got around to ordering it. When I went to order one, I wasn't sure which one to get. And I just sort of forgot about it.
