These two barrels had the identical markings on them. One was burnished, the other was not.
On round barrels it is not hard to burnish, octagonal barrels or frames require you to hold the burnisher flat to the surface. It can be done but it takes more effort and time to get the flat surface polished smooth.
Here is the what I use for burnishing. It started life as a mold pin for a plastic injection mold. I sent it out and had it hardened. It does double duty as a knife steel. Same principal, smoothing out a ridge of metal.
