De-leading and De-coppering a barrell

Well here we go have loaded a boat load of Barrys plated .311/110gr 21.5gr reloader-7 exceeding mfg fps a bit but just enough to cycle the 2 SKS's we have with out blowing the bullet apart. The test rounds fired dident leave much in the barrell (only 10 rounds) but i have a kid that will shoot and shoot and shoot some more so I expect to have a nasty cleaning job ahead of me.
One of the sks's is a YUGO with a non-chrome lined barrell.
Also looking to load some .312/123gr bullets plated (got em near free)
and was told no problem!!
So if any of my fellow reloaders/shooters/Dads have any useful info I would be grateful.

Ammonia dope is by far the best de-coppering agent you can get, and best of all you can make it at home. Or you can be like the rest of the world and just use sweets 7.62 (which works great, and is pretty much ammonia dope with a surfactant).

As for de-leading, there are a number of things out there, shooter's choice is pretty popular with some of the cowboy shooters I know. I like to use white vinegar and peroxide. which I will warn you now, will strip bluing, but if you have a stainless steel pistol barrel, will make it cleaner than the day you got it. (btw, I take my barrel out and soak it)

The copper Chore Boy for cleaning pots and pans will get leading out and not hurt your barrel and is cheap, or so I have read. I don't remember the brand but it's called a "lead out" and uses brass screens and a rubber plug. It works excellently. Cost is around 30 bucks. And ammonia is for copper. I use Shooters Choice but a bottle of cleaner with ammonia from the grocery store would probably work as well.

I bought an Outers Lead-copper out kit for $86 bucks I've done 5 rifles, it works

Outers Foul Out machine...works like a champ. It uses the principles of electro-chemical plating to pull the lead/copper molecules off the barrel and onto a rod in the center. It will get your barrels as clean as the day they left the factory.

KG-12 for copper. Ammonia is good as well.
Shooters Choice for lead.
The best all around cleaner bar none is Mercury, but is toxic as hell and near impossible to get.

Try running some brass screens down the barrel while cleaning. Works wonders!

Care to share some recipes? And re: the vinegar/peroxide mixture, will a chromed barrel stand up the same as a stainless?

Not sure about the copper... but the lead is easy.
I just shoot a couple of gas checked bullets through and it really will clean out any leading you have.

I use a Lewis Lead Remover (with the brass screens) on pistols, and if copper fouling reaches a point that it's a concern, Montana Extreme Copper Killer will remove it in a 10-15 minute or less session. I bought it on a whim (on sale) and it is the most effective commercial copper remover I've found (it contains more than plain ammonia). It was developed by 50 BMG shooters with serious copper issues. Fumes are pretty noxious, but it isn't HAZMAT & doesn't produce any bad stuff like Azar pointed out. It pulls copper off like it's dust on the floor, but you have to use nylon bore brushes; it will eat your bronze ones in front of your eyes...
