If you live in Georgia please take note of the following from georgiacarry.org, make the call:

Tomorrow is the deadline for the Governor to decide on HB 89. This morning, it was reported by a GCO member that the Governor's office is not receiving very many telephone calls regarding HB 89. Here is the pertinent portion of his report:
After asking him to pass a request to the Governor to sign HB89 into law, I gave my usual thanks for taking what must be one of a great many calls. Instead of the usual (surprised) "you're welcome," this gentleman's comment was, "Actually, I haven't gotten many."
That statement by a member of the Governor's staff is a matter for concern today, as tomorrow is the deadline for the Governor's decision. Can you do something about this today and tomorrow? Can you ask the Governor to sign HB 89?
Can your friends and relatives call?
Is there anything more important you can be doing today and tomorrow for the future of your right to bear arms?

As always, please exercise extreme courtesy and self restraint in dealing with Gov. Perdue’s office.
HB 89 will remove restaurants that serve alcohol, mass transit, State Parks, and WMAs from Georgia's places off limits list!
If you share this goal, then today is the day for you to act! Please contact the Governor and urge others to do the same.

Please help!

PCRit, where did you hear HB 89 had been signed? Last I heard it was still on the desk awaiting action.

Thanks PCRit, odd I didn't get email from georgiacarry.org doesn't matter, that's the news we wanted to hear. Don't think the courts will bother with it until SCOTUS makes their decision.

Gov signed the bill..... way to go

Congratulations to everyone who worked for passage of this bill. Do some celebrating for a job well done.

Wouldn't hurt to send e-mails to your governor thanking him for signing and to your legislators thanking them for their good sense. But you've probably thought of that already.

The Governor signed it and I had dinner last night with a friend in one of the County Probate Courts. He was accepting of the new rules except for the portion pertaining to the Probate Court. I expect it will indeed be challenged after talking to him as the GA bill does not conform to Federal law as far as time limits are concerned. I don't know about this I haven't researched it but it seems that according to my friend there may be more denials because the Probate Court will not have the necessary time to clear up any questions on the criminal histories that the FBI/GBI provide to the Court. It will be interesting to see the outcome of that aspect.

I'm just guessing that your friend's suggestion that the new law doesn't fit with Federal guidelines is hogwash. I think what he probably doesn't like is 1) the fact that the Probate court has to act within 2 days after receiving the CCW paperwork to forward it to the GBI/FBI for background checks, 2) the law enforcement agency must report back to the Probate court within 30 days (used to be 50 days), and here is the kicker, 3) the Probate court shall issue the requested permit within 10 days (used to be 60) if there is no derogatory information to deny the permit.

The 10day limit to issue the permit, instead of 60 days is what the court is probably going to hate. It means they have to actually have their act together, rather than sitting on applications for 2 months before issuing them. And believe me, some county Probate courts stretch that issue date out to the current 60 day limit:D
