Glenn Bartley, thank you for setting the example. Hope you gave your boy a nice gift to go with an incredible message. I myself got luggage and was given the opportunity to use it in short order.

Well said

I am 18, and this was a great read. I just joined this forum this morning to respond to this thread (to be honest, I do not entirely understand most of the things here.)

Very well said, Glenn.

You must be a great dad. My life would have been so very different if my father were like you.

When I was 9 years old, the last thing my father said was he did not ever want to see or hear from me again. So far, he has kept his promise. It is better that way because he is a very violent man.

Good luck to your son. 18 is great and all, but 21 is better!

I wish I could do that for my son...

He was killed in a motorcycle accident about 17 months ago. He was 19 years old. We were just starting to do buddy things together. Next on the list was going to be shooting. I never had the chance to take him to the gun shop. My advice for those of you that can, do it.

Great Read, just turned 18 myself 4 days ago. Alredy accomplished to get my self a motorcycle liscense and my first gun! DPMS lite 16 (AR-15) cant wait till it comes in!!!

O my god what are the odds of that? I dident even read that before posting this, thats some karma for me, sure is making me think twice, very sorry for your loss sdm1002.

Glenn that made for great reading

If you don't mind I'm going to copy it and paste it on my personnal site, but don't worry you will be getting full credit--no plagerism here. I'll even link to this thread. Hopefully that leads to a few friends and relatives learning more about guns and stuff.

I've put it in a notebook and was going to purchase copies of the Constitution, Declaration of Independence etc printed on nice paper and include them in the notebook. However, someone mentioned pocket guides for these documents and I think that might be a better idea.

The little pocket guides are free from the Heritage Foundation.

I got an M-16A1 for my 18th birthday.
Of course, it was the first day of the second week of Army basic, but anyway....

Dittos, But mine was a M16A2 and I was still 17 since I turned 18 six weeks into Boot Camp. Semper Fi! To bad the Navy don't give them out though :D:cuss:

Here's the graduation speach I got: "You're done with school now so go get a job. We don't have to support you anymore."

Again, thanks for all the nice compliments. I guess it is all sinking into Brendan. last night he told me he is saving up to buy a SAIGA rifle.;)

All the best,
GB
