There is a definite lack of shooting activity in my area now. Big game seasons are cranking up, but there is hardly anybody out doing zero verification, sight in, or practice. I am no longer finding brass laying around for the taking either. I think the factory ammo using people are low or out. Anybody notice the same where they are?

I haven't noticed any change, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been. It did seem there were more deer hunters out and about this year - deer season was over a month ago around these parts.:)

I know people are hunting here. They just aren't out shooting. Our seasons for big game hunts run from September on into the first part of next year.

Way more muzzle loaders this year,first two weeks November. Opening day of general firearms yesterday,was noticeably less.

I'm probably the only shooting done even remotely recreationally? Once in awhile somebody will run a cpl cyl/mags through a handgun. Rifles and ML have been almost nonexistent.

There's a bunch of bow hunting done around here. And bear hunting with dogs is very popular. Hard to put any numbers on those.

No change considering events of the last few years.

Less people are shooting in general because of ammo availability but there are still the same number of people at the range at any given time.

There are more recreational shooters than hunters though. A lot more.

Was at the indoor range I'm a member of on Friday, about 1pm. All lanes on the rifle side were full. First time I'd seen that in a long time, especially on a weekday. Folks sighting in their deer rifles, I was told.

Was out at the range today,shoulder been hurting pretty bad the last few days, but went anyway. Maybe should have shot lefty but didn't. Someone, that has money to burn, has been shooting, found 40 pieces of 06 brass and 75 9mm. Has a rough day behind the butt plate but hit all 15 on steel at 300.

Shooting is about the same, which really wasnt always that much. Most here are hunters not shooters.

Hunting, with a gun anyways, seems to continually be dropping off. Rifle season has been noticeably quieter the past 10 years or so (the first couple of days always used to sound like a firefight here), and I think archery has had a lot to do with that. First pick at the nice deer, and not freezing your ass off, has its perks. :)

Where I live, there's a lot more recreational shooting than hunting, so things haven't really dropped off...except for the usual decline for inclement weather.

Both my neighbor and I have shooting ranges behind our houses. We both shoot a lot. A week before deer gun season he will call and ask me to stop shooting as to not frighten the deer he is hunting during deer gun season.

And I always do.

I shoot a lot too and usually stop the week of rifle season here. I got to thinking about that and got a chuckle, thinking that the deer probably think something is up, because Im not shooting and its too quiet. :)

Your probably right about that, like a farmer not driving the tractor during deer season. They get used to it and it doesn't phase them much.

Actually I have noticed a lot more shooting lately, almost but not quite as much as a couple years ago. Mostly pistols and ar stuff out there every
day. We have our own range and like you said deer season is open but not big rifles shooting here except mine.
Our local gun shop has lots of ammo but the price is up of course and seems people are preparing for something
with all the shooting, either that or everyone has got a raise, maybe an extra government free check.

Can't say,and should've included;

Somewhat non-scientific,just going by the gunfire heard from being in our woods,or on our range. ML'ing was more than I've ever heard,having lived here for 35 years. Usually,opening day of CF deer season there's 20-30 easy before 9:00. This year was 3. ML was constant for that previous period. And this is NOT because of herd sizes,in that respect we're avg to slightly above. We haven't had the CWD with deer here like other parts of the state. Least none I've heard about(here).

Having said that;

Was on our 3D range today practicing with my bow,and heard several folks with handguns. More than I've heard,of any kind of "practice" in a looong time. All of this may not be hard data but, I'm pretty dang aware of shooting around here.

We have lived here outside the city limits for 7 years now. For the first 5 and a half years or so we could hear shooting pretty much every day. Hunting season or no. Just an every day thing. Now, No. Very few.

While I live in the country, a range local to me had been having open sight in days on the weekends with regularity prior t othe start of our rifle deer season, There didn't seem to be any reduction in the amount of shooting on the weekends compared to previous years, and I believe the fall trap and/or skeet leagues are winding down.
Locals stil lhave the ability to shoot on their property outside of hunting season. Up here, once a gun season is open, only approved shooting other than hunting is supposed to occur only at licensed ranges.

I usually find tons of 9mm. That seems to be the go to pistol cartridge these days. Now though, I am not finding much of anything including 9mm.

I never skipped a beat on my weekly range trips. For a bit the traffic at the range was a little slow. We still had the same old mag dumpers show up. The only thing I had to slow down on is my bolt guns range trips. I can't find the 7mm bullets they like and I don't wont to burn up the boxes I have left so I ration those.

It's alive and well in SE Wisconsin. The ranges I've gone to have been busy and it's common to hear gun shots from my house- the good kind, hunters and people shooting on their property.
