thought id let you guys know. my college campus recently received some death threats. scrawled on the most serious of places, bathroom walls.

heres the email they sent out.

To All Faculty, Staff, and Students:

College police are investigating nonspecific death threats, dated for Thursday, February 28, written today on bathroom walls in three non-residential campus buildings. The college will remain open with an increased police presence. We ask that all community members be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the College Police Department at Phone number. There will be a $500 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the author(s) of the threat.

The Office of Student Affairs (phone number) will be open tonight through 7:00 p.m. to answer questions about this announcement, and will reopen for regular business hours at 8:30 Wednesday morning.

The College Emergency Response Team

the "Emergency Response Team", i can only imagine involves duct tape trauma plates and high performance golf carts.

if i knew more people with LTC (CCW). an empty holster demonstration would be probably be clearly received... in a few weeks time

ADDED: While this may not be gun specific. it is with in the ideals we all share. self defense, human rights, and the ideals of CCW.

That sucks man.

About two weeks ago, we had a similar incident at my school. Some stupid kid threatened to kill his teacher.

Are you legally permitted to carry at school in your state?

Are you legally permitted to carry at school in your state?

sadly no. guns, knives, even mace are outlawed ( and by the state if i read correctly, not college policy)

im not too concerned. i feel anyone whos a legitimate threat would have left less subtle clues.

If they were really considering an attack, you are probably right - unless they are just plain nuts and don't care.

i guess the word would be MORE subtle. sorry about the typo there, im sure you all know what i mean.

Wear your empty hoster while packing in your book bag. After all, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6

admirable theory. except i fear being judge by 12, when some one only threatend id be carried by 6.

dig me?

im not going to jail for a long time because i got busted on some simple thing.

i have how ever prepared a letter to be submitted to the student paper.

let me knwo what i should change. im not a writer by anymeans, and at the moment i feel this is more feeling than logic

I am writing in hopes that you will take a realistic, unbiased look at the facts surrounding campus security. as COLLEGE at this very moment and grinding its gears to deal with death threats scrawled on the bathroom walls ( which I can only hope to be some ones pathetic inconsiderate attempt at a joke) these threats combined with the cold brutal reality of the recent failed "security protocols" of other campuses. I feel as a journal of opinion, you would be lacking in your duties to take a look at the idealistic "security" of this campus.

In reality the laws that restrict weapons possession on this campus are only worth the paper they are printed on. there is no magical force field to keep these events from happening here. to think that a law against weapons will keep this campus safe is like keeping a law against murder will keep you safe... exactly, it cant. There’s no POSSIBLE piece of paper (law) that physically keeps a weapon off this campus. And there is no possible or acceptable level of police presence to check each individual student.

Murder, taking of a life with deliberately premeditated malice aforethought, is illegal. By that definition, which is the state of Massachusetts's legal definition of murder, the act is planed in some sense and aggressive against others, once committed to murder, the actions of an offender traditionally will have no concern for other laws.

This brings me to my point. when a person has decided upon premeditated murder of any form whether acquaintance murder or a spree killing, spree killing would be the murder of multiple persons in once incident generally with out a connection between them, no restrictions or rules will stop them. I can understand the difficulty of a logical and reasonable human being in understanding this brutal act. but think of it in simple terms of major and minor laws. would a suicide bomber in Iraq care if his car bomb is double parked? would you care that your brake light is out when you are doing 130 MPH on the highway?

i wish i could suggest a solution, but I cant. there’s no level of legislation that can keep us safe. and there is no level of police presence that would keep us safe ( 20 of the 22 Virginia Tech victims died AFTER police were on campus.) nor would increased scrutiny of security and police be acceptable, as we are still American citizens entitled to privacy, innocence, and self determination which one may argue were lost on this campus long ago. Some will say we need to take responsibility for our own safety, I am one of those. Others would wish we sacrifice more of out rights in the name of security , and thankfully this poor logic lets me end on a strong note

“Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety“ - Benjamin Franklin
