Hi friends.
I was on here a lot last summer when I was researching 1911's. My ten year anniversary is coming up in May and I HAD a budget of about $1600 for a 1911.

Well, since then, I have decided there is a need for a new deer rifle too, so my budget is cut almost in half. My new budget for my 1911 is now about $900, maybe a little more.

It is really hard making this decision. I think what makes it so hard to decide is that people's opinions vary so much. I can understand this, as I have my own opinions as well. Anyways, this will be my first 1911, and most likely my last, as I just don't buy many pistols. I will be using it mostly for target, as I use a revolver for my CCW gun. And I'll be handloading my own .45 ACP ammo.

Probably the single most important factor for me in this decision is that I want USA made. Every part. I was at a gun shop last evening and the guy told me that even if its made in US, most parts are cast in South America. I'd like to know your thoughts on this. Can a decent 1911 USA made be had for around $900? I hope so. Thats what I'm after. Also, I'd rather not buy used.

I like the recommendations of Silent Bob and NinjaFeint.

My first choice would be Colt Series 70 Repro, then 1991, then a blue Colt Commander (model 04691) if I wanted a Commander size.

I like the S&W's too. However, I haven't seen them for under $1,000 recently. If you had some more cash, I think they are a good value at that price though. The Gunsite and Commander length PD are my favorite S&W 1911's.

well, dan wesson was available in that price range. if only you were buying a couple months earlier. they are made completely in the US, but are now foreign owned. i'll let you decide how that fits your requirements.

with them out, i would have to say colt. i'm personally interested in a blued series 70 government for my next 1911.

Bud's sells the standard SW1911 for $813 delivered, the PRO is $1089 and the 4.35" is $913. I would not buy from Bud's but I can usually get their price matched locally. I have seen various SW1911's in the $800-$1000 range where I am.

Not trying to prove you wrong, I just don't want the OP to think they are all over $1000.

STI Spartan, they usually run about $600 and the best 1911 under a grand in my opinion. They are all handfitted before leaving the factory.

I think the STI Trojan is as good as you're going to get for under a grand.

I was going to say that as well until the
I want USA made. Every part.
The Spartan frame and slide are Armscor which is made in the Philippines. Though that would not deter me as those parts are just as good if not better than some US made 1911 parts. And then STI does a wonderful fit and finish on the to provide a truly fine 1911 for less than a bone stock all US pistol. I believe all other STI pistols are made using all US parts, including the Trojan. MSRP on a Trojan is $1,100.00 but that being MSRP you should be able to find, order, one for $900 or maybe less.

I have a 30 year old Combat Commander that I paid 800 dollars for.

Why?

It was all american made; a rarity nowadays.

I consider it a type of rarity, plus I wanted a unmodded "vintage" 1911 ... well ... it will be at some point ... right?

STI Spartan.

While the Philippines produce the slide and the frame, the Philippines also assisted us greatly during WW II against the Japs, so...

Great gun.

Great price.

STI Trojan-built in Texas.

Go through Brazos or Dawson Precision websites and pick out your future bolt on goodies and mag. accessories. Great customer service.
