1911 Fever.....

I bought two Remington R1 pistols in the past few weeks - the 5" ($499 before $100 cash rebate) and the 4.25" Commander ($563 before $100 cash rebate). They have excellent fit & finish, but haven't fired them yet.

Nice looking guns. I like the wood very much and the fact that they are "government models" insofar as the hammer and grip safety are concerned.

They may only be capable of firing hardball, but a barrel throat job (Kuhnhausen) will allow HP ammo to function well.

If the OP would entertain fitting the trigger/sear/hammer on his own (Kuhnhausen), he would learn much and have a great pistol.

There are many videos available as to how to do this.It is not black magic.

Have a good night, sir!

The 1911 trigger is known to every gunsmith in America. Buy the one you like
and any decent gunsmith will give you any kind of trigger you like.

Keep looking around until you find a used Ruger 1911. They will not have the firing pin safety that the Taurus and Remington will have. Personally, I'm not a fan of Taurus or Remington.

Fine looking pair of Remington 1911s! Nice price as well, along with the rebates, on both guns.

Heck, with Sig, Walther and Glock fans there's a stigma AGAINST the American made versions.

Ain't it the truth. I recently got a US made P229 that, as far as I can tell, is every bit the gun my w. German Sigs were

Good buy on the Ruger, they make a fine 1911. My R1 is also a fine shooter with a good enough trigger. Not crappy by any means.

Enjoy the Ruger!
