I need a sling for my Mini-30. Right now I am using a cheap black nylon sling that works OK but it slips and it looks terrible on the wood/stainless rifle.

I'm really looking for an M1907-type sling. Simple, no padding, brown leather and functional for carrying and steadying the rifle.

Something like this:

...from El Paso Saddlery would be great...but do I have to pay $65+?

Try these guys then: http://www.pacificcanvasandleather.com/

...more specifically: http://www.pacificcanvasandleather.com/slings.htm

I have no doubt that the El Paso Saddlery item would be much better quality (I lived in El Paso a long time and visited El Paso Saddlery on occasion) but Pacific Canvas stuff is at least servicable, and some of it is very good in fact.

I have two of their brown leather "US" marked 1911 holsters and four "US" marked brown leather dual-magazine pouches myself. I treated all of these items with anhydrous lanolin -- partly because the leather looked a little dry and partly because I wanted to waterproof the leather (as I do with all my leather items, as per my SOP) -- and they look great...sort of a chestnut brown color (a darker color than when not treated).

Quality-wise, I'd rate the Pacific Canvas M38 1911 "US" shoulder holster I got a C+/B-, the 1911 "US" (pistol belt) flap holster a B+/A- and the leather "US" ammo pouches a solid A. Did not get any of their slings so I can't say.

Good luck,

Considered all these options and ended up with the Triple K military sling from Cabela's. 1" width was $17.99 plus shipping with great reviews.
