I would appreciate the names of a couple of online dealers who are good to deal with.

TIA

sgammo.com (employee owned, good red state Oklahomaans)
targetsportsusa.com (great prices and company to deal with)
laxammo.com (operating behind enemy lines but have been great to deal with)

But right now...no one for the prices I want to pay, even IF they had product to sell.

SGammo and MidwayUSA are my two favorites. TargetSports is good but they are so far east that shipping time is twice as long as SG and Midway for me. If you find something in stock, you have to put it in your cart and check out ASAP. Most popular calibers sell out in minutes, even at prices that sting.

If you don't have anything to sell for months on end, how do you stay in business? For the ones that do have inventory, are there enough people out there buying to keep them in business?

Every single time I've checked TargetSportsUsa this past year I've not seen one box of ammo in stock. Otherwise they are great to deal with. I'm a few hours north of them, every single time I placed an order, if I placed it in the morning I got it the following day. I loved that. Ah the days of ordering cases for next to nothing and shooting to your hearts content.

Creedmoor Sports, for the first half of 2020, had a good supply of high end .22 target ammo. Most everything is out of stock now. They not only had more such ammo than others but good prices too. Until recently ammo could be backordered; now it's just out of stock. They will be back, I hope.

My friend let me borrow a bunch of boxes of .38 Special.
I similarly loaned this friend ten boxes of 12-gauge slugs.

At this point seems easier to borrow and trade amongst friends.
We will both "reclaim" our own ammunition once supplies return.

I’ve used selwayarmory along with all the others mentioned above. Unfortunately they’re pretty much all sold out.

I've used SGAmmo a lot and like them. I used to get emails from them all of the time but not any longer because they rarely have anything in stock. I don't see how some of these places are going to survive.
I used to get emails from them also, practically begging me to buy ammo. They told me ammo prices were at 10 year lows, and the prudent person would stock up. This was only 2 years ago.

I took that advice.

I could sell at triple the price at which I bought, but how would I replace it ?

And, it may be even more valuable in a year or so.

Anyone who has ammo right now is a good dealer; most do not.
I prefer TargetSportsUSA slightly over SG Ammo; but both are reputable - and out of stock
Looking at the below, depending on caliber, there are many online resellers of just about anything..the 'popular' calibers for sure.

I've bought from a lot of them and except for some slow shipping, have never had a problem.

I usually buy from whichever online retailer has want I need in stock at a reasonable price (all things considered, these days) and I haven't had any bad experiences. SGAmmo is usually my "go-to" if they have the ammo in stock because their service is superior.

Dillon Precision.

Learn to reload. The smart ones are doing it.
Reloading components have become as scarce as ammo. Some equipment. like dies in popular calibers, re increasingly hard to find. Looks like people are trying to take up reloading, but having trouble finding what they want.

Optics Planet still has the backorder option, as of yesterday still had some ammo in-stock.

$63 for 800 rounds? Yikes. I bought Federal Black bulk .22lr several months before the idiocy for $45 for 1600 rounds..................

I just paid $150 for 800 rounds of 22LR. And $40 for a box of 50 rounds of 9mm Luger. I am looking forward to the day when I can find a bucket o' bullets of 22LR for $70 like I've seen advertised but out of stock.

Many online retailers aren't selling for a couple of reasons. 1st and foremost, Ammo manufacturers are sending them out to stores to fulfill backorders. I'm not sure how the ammo industry works for sure, but in other industries with contracts with B&M stores, they have to fulfill those orders or they risk breaching contracts. The other reason is if the online retailer actually has a B&M store. Selling online is relatively cheap compared to keeping a B&M store alive. Wouldn't you rather have your B&M store customers happy?
