Stop. Look. Listen.
The classic methodology. Move slower and look around more than you ever have before. The moment you give up and start walking faster and being louder is when you'll see something with a raised white tail bouncing out of range. Patience above all else.
If still hunting from a chair, move your head slowly when you scan, don't ever move fast.
