Alrighty,
I finally have a safe on the way (Diamond Back ZDB-40H...Thanks Frank!). Now, since I'm in MD and we have horrendously humid summers, I figure I should get a dehumidifier. So, are the "Golden Rod" the standard? Are they safe? How about dessicant packs? Do they do a good job?

Thanks
Rich

They work great. Is your safe in an air conditioned room? If so, you might not need a golden rod. I live on the Gulf Coast and don't use a golden rod or any other dehumidifier because we have to run the AC here so much that the air inside stays pretty dry.

YMMV

Check both Midway and Brownells. I actually found one cheaper at Midway, not a Golden Rod. Was another brand name. My main focus was largest that fit the safe and lowest wattage, hence lesser heat. No need to keep them warm, just dry.

I would use a smaller bulb than 20w if possible. Most heaters are is the 5w to 18W range. Even a candle bulb that uses 4w should be ok. Just do not use the long life or lowest wattage ones. Use one of the bright 4w, that should put out enough heat and keep the electric bill low also.
