My father and I are looking at getting a new gun safe. However, it is going to have to go in the garage. Being in Houston, I'm really worried about humidity. Unfortunately, the construction of the safe means that plug-in dehumidifiers are not an option. Does anyone know of a good battery-operated dehumidifier that I could use in it?

Batteries aren't reliable. Drill a hole in the back big enough for an eclectric cable, about 1/4", and install a 25 watt light bulb fixture. That's enough to keep the safe dry. A gun safe doesn't have to be a bank safe.

Drilling holes into your safe MAY void the warranty.
Check out the Remington De-Humidifier (Cabelas).
I use one and I am happy with the results.
I think also that the item is available at the N.R.A. store.
