I just got a used Colt Delta Elite and before I shoot it I want to swap out the recoil spring. The problem is I am finding conflicting information as to what type to use. I know the factory set up was a double spring system but I can't find those anywhere. This gun has a single spring anyway.

So what is the best to use? Full length guide rod or not?

Thanks

I have the factory plastic guide rod/dual spring in mine. I've heard some people say that the single spring/metal guide rod is better, but just as many say that the plastic guide rod acts as a buffer and is better since it has some "give" built in. I'm keeping the dual spring/plastic guide rod in mine, and I'll just replace the whole setup when the time comes. I think the single spring guys are running something in the 23# range, but I'm not 100% sure. You should be able to find one of those easliy, and if you decide to go with the factory stuff just call Colt.

The factory plastic guide rod and dual springs work very well so long as the guide rod does not break or the springs shave pieces off of the rod. That is why some replace them.

Contact Colt about the dual replacement springs.

Otherwise, use a normal length guide rod and a 23 lb Wolff recoil spring.

Talk to Chuck his site name is Chuck@AC I bought this custom Delta Elite from him, he just started building again. He was the guy to go to in the 90's. My Delta has now become my go to gun, it replaced my Les Baer that is now laying in the safe. The one he did is the dark gray. IMG_0676.gif

Wolff recoil spring, 20 or 23 lbs depending on load, GI or FLGR, EGW flat bottom FPS.
