a short while ago, i bought a franklin arsenal vibratory case cleaner. it seems to work fine except it dents nearly all of my rifle brass. doesnt do it to the pistol rounds. i have tried increasing the amount of media, and reducing the amount of rounds, but it still happens. any ideas? i just looked at it, do you think a peice of rubber hose over the stud would stop this?

Wow! Never heard of a vibratory cleaner denting brass. Are you sure they didn't substitute the Binford 400 hp cleaner for the Franklin Arsenal one?

How many cases are you cleaning at one time, and what caliber are the cases? In general, you have enough media if all the cases go below the surface soon after the cleaner starts. If the cases tend to "float", you may be trying to clean too many at once or you aren't using enough [strike]media[/strike] [strike]medium[/strike] corn cob stuff.

this time there are only 14 (first time it had 40) .300 H&H magnum cases. i filled the tub up to 1/4" from the top (walnut shells). the denting is in the neck area, and a few on the shoulder. i thought about the binford line, but decided to go with a HEMI instead! lol.

Add more media. if you only have a small amount of media and brass they will tumble hard. when you had more media. it will vibrate. you almost want to be able to take off the top and turn it on with shells inside and just watch it vibrate. If you turn it on with the top off and they rattle around like crazy you need to add more media

Way too much media IMO. I fill mine to the indented line that runs about 2/3 of the way up the tub. This is enought to just touch the metal screw stud that holds the lid. I`ve never had a case dent (doesn`t mean it won`t happen) and I`ve cleaned 200+ 45acp or 80-100 308/30-06 rifle size cases at a time with it filled this way.

well, i finally figured this out. after i did, i kind of steped back and said to my self, "DUH!" there is a square metal boss that sticks out where the bowl attaches at the bottom. i put a big glob of silicone rubber on it to round it off, and thats the end of the dents, i thought it was rounded off enough, but thats what i get for thinking. i hope this helps somebody else out as it sure makes me look dumb!
