Soldier's Family Slain in Washington
By Associated Press

KIRKLAND, Wash. - Two women and two young boys found dead after a house fire all died of wounds to the neck, and the fire apparently was set to cover up the slayings, authorities said Wednesday.

The home belonged to a soldier serving in Iraq, his wife and their two children. The victims were the young mother, the children and her sister, the King County medical examiner's office said.

Police in this east Seattle suburb have arrested a neighbor for investigation of arson and homicide in Monday's fire and the four slayings, Police Capt. Eric Olsen said at a news conference. He declined to elaborate on what led authorities to the man.

"We don't have a motive at this time," Olsen said.

When firefighters arrived at the scene Monday, the two-story house was ablaze. Authorities determined the fire was arson.

Sgt. Leonid Milkin, 29, has been granted emergency leave from duty in Iraq, and was expected home with 24 hours, Maj. Philip Osterli of the Washington National Guard said Wednesday.

Milkin bought the home in 2003 with his wife, Olga, 28.

In addition to Olga Milkin, the victims were identified as her sister, Lyuba Botvin, 24, who also lived in the house, and the Milkins' two boys, Justin, 5, and Andrew, 3.

The women and the older boy died of stab wounds to the neck while the 3-year-old's throat was cut, the medical examiner's office said.

Milkin had been in Iraq since September as a member of the 341st Military Intelligence Battalion.

Army officials were helping the National Guard coordinate a grant for funeral expenses.

The bodies were all found on the second floor, Fire Marshal Grace Steuart said after the fire.

My prayers are for this soldier.

Hope they give the guy that did this the chair.

Does anybody know where to send donations to help with funeral services? I think people that do crimes like these are not even people and should be treated on a lower level than a rabid animal would be treated. Just shooting him is to good of a death for someone like this.:fire:

I see nothing cruel, nor unusual, with killing a murderer, once convicted, in the same manner he killed his victim(s). Capture, try, and convict; then slit his throat and let him bleed to death in the same manner he killed the family. I cannot begin to express my sadness for a brother in arms, nor my anger toward the coward who did this. If anyone finds out where to send donations please let me, and the others here know.

ugaarguy

I have no idea where Camp Murray is, but I do believe there is a U.S. Bank near my house I will be going there as soon as I get off work. Thanks for the info.

My prayers as well! For the coward that committed this crime a rope is too good. He set the house on fire after he killed them maybe setting him on fire should be the punishment. The punishment should fit the crime.

The family was

ethnic Russian that had moved from the Ukraine via Estonia more than a decade ago. How sad. There is little information yet about the doer other than that he was released from some unidentified rehab facility a few weeks ago.

Camp Murray is the headquarters of the WA National Guard, located across I-5 from Fort Lewis just south of Tacoma. Milkin is a Guardsman.

:( How unspeakably awful

The punishment should fit the crime.
Why in the world do we kill someone in the "must humane" manner when they've been sentenced to death? Did Olga, Lyuba, Andrew, and Justin get that mercy?

Just recently

the AMA passed a resolution saying it is inhumane for a doctor to participate in a lethal injection execution.

Fine by me. I think I have a rusty machete in my garage.

Words cannot come close to expressing the feelings I have right now. It really hits home due to my pending deployment as it is. I couldn't fathom how I would react if I got that this type of news when I am over there. Soldiers shouldn't be receiving notices that their family was murdered, by a neighbor no less.:cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Washington state still has hanging as a legal method of execution. The default method is lethal injection, but an inmate may still chose to be hung. Of course, it'll take 'em 25 years to get around to it.

Hanging sounds about right for this.

My prayers are with that poor soldier.

I am surprised at the tone presented here on 'The High Road", I have come to expect so much more!
What no recriminations about his sad childhood, no sympathy for how much the cost of dope has gone up since he started his re-hab? hey he was Jonesin' and not quite in controll!
My thoughts cannot be expressed here on this forum,They are not HIGH ROAD,
neither are they legal, moral, or civilised, they are however Just!
Justice has long been dead here in our republic, its Not a good thing!

How about a combination of hanging and injection...

I think the soldier should be allowed to take his weapons home.

But this is pretty messed up. Is there a motive?

MD_Willington

Names sound Russian or Ukrainian...

Speculation: maybe a bit of a problem that followed them from the "old country"

Willington and ChestyP, offer good possible motives. The possibility of "old country" animosities, or perhaps criminal involvements, was the first thing that entered my mind when I read the original news story.

There are some major problems which have immigrated with immigrants (legal & illegal) from the old Soviet Union.

Not saying that is the case in this incident, but I assure you that possibility is something that the police are going to be looking into.

whatever the motivation for this barbarism to do this to a 3 year old not to mention the others just is beyond me.....

really saddens my day to have read this....
