Deprime before cleaning?

You can clean cases with spent primers in or out but do you really want to run dirty and possibly gritty cases through your dies? I don't.

I tumble before I resize and deprime.With the old primer in pocket the pocket doesn't get packed full of media and I like to run clean brass through my dies.I clean primer pockets if needed after .
