The camera in the vid is a great eyewitness. It tells the same story everytime, unlike the cop.

Falsis in unus, falsis in omnibus.

Give me the poop, the whole poop and nothing but the poop and we'll talk. Anything less, and your credibility has gone the way of the dinosaur.

Whether he's guilty of intentionally shooting the guy or not, the media plays the same card over and over in the same old crappy poker game of news coverage: The Ace of Controversy.

The plain and simple fact is whatever looks the worst for the "man," the faster you'll read about it in the news. On the front page you'll see "Off Duty Cop caught driving drunk" and 8 pages later you'll see "Off Duty Cop Saves 120 orhpans from dirty bomb." Another perfect example is the current conflict in Iraq. How many times do you see on the newspaper front page "Another School Open in Iraq"? Never. Because the people don't care about anything good. Good news doesn't sell.

Anyway, I've personally learned to make my judgment of the situation after the trial, even though 99% of America won't remember this guy when the trial begins in a year.

On a side note, I think it's "Falsis in unum, Falsis in omnibus"

Part of the problem is our society has become so infused with lawyerism that people would rather lie than tell the truth if the complex truth can be twisted into an indictment by a careerist DA or a litigeous lawyer.

Carefull with the whole "it's the lawyers fault" angle. Without lawyers there would not be cameras in cruisers, there would be no miranda. Like it or not it is the lawyers who are watching the watchmen.

What did we do to fight tyranny today? The fact of the matter is that even the scummiest of criminal defense attornies fights this fight every single day.

The "reaching" pretense for deadly force is unjustifiable to begin with. Unless the subject is believed or known to be armed or a weapon is actually observed.

If this PO had any reason to believe Carrion was armed, he should have had him spread eagled prone and conducted a ground search - or held him at gunpoint with instructions not to move and waited for a backup and searched him at that time.

If perjury charges are NOT pressed, it amounts to a statement by the DA's office that cops can do whatever they want so long as they successfully lie, and they might as well since the lie itself won't make things worse
If he made a sworn statement, I agree. Letting people like this get away with even one aspect of their crime does perhaps more damage to the image of police agencies and their officers than anything else. It fosters the "us vs them" atmosphere.
