I know of one department that started assigning SWAT officers as SRO's and once a week they wear their SWAT gear. This was after an incident involving an incompetent school resource officer. Now any High School kiddies with visions of going crazy know they will have a SWAT stud to deal with not Barney Fife.

AFA leaving the station without your pistola a wise old-timer told me the trick; take your car keys and put the ring through your thumb break. Voila, to get in your car you have to know your gun isn't there.
