Hi, I have been seeing some derringers lately. And actually I have been thinking about getting one. Does anybody knows about which might be better? Or is it just foolish of me to get one?

I have a couple of revolvers that I love but a derringer will be a nice addition or is it? Any advice in the matter will be appreciated.

I know very little about them, but a local shop had one made by these folks www.bondarms.com and it actually appeared to be very well made.

It was .45 Colt with 3" barrels, too much "fun" for me, but someone must have liked it. It sold in just a couple days.

Years ago, I had an ADC in .45 acp. the thing shot high and the barrels were widely dispursed. seven to nine feet was the maximum hit range. More recenttly, a friend picked up a bond arms .45 colt. You can make effective hits with it out to fifteen yards or so. Very well made pistol.

The real question is what do you intend to do with it?

The Bond is almost universally considered to be the best.

I have a Cowboy model in 38/357 that I'm currently selling but only because I bought it for cowboy shoots and I just don't use it.

They're fantastic "fun" guns to own but I would not advocate one for self defense or hunting. Single Action, heavy triggers and only 2 shots.

YMMV

Here's mine:

Just IMO but ADC and Bond are the best of the bunch,,if your thinking along the lines as a back up carry piece they serve well for this, but i would stay away from any 45 cal other than the ACP version, Had a 45 colt with the 3" barrel and it hurt like hell every time firing it, grips are just wrong for that kind of recoil, and the 410 short in either shot of buckshot always left an imprint of the grips in my palm for 2 or 3 days.

Their just as heavy in the pocket it seems to me as a good J frame and as others have posted only two shots, and if you change the grip out for what they call a boot version its just as large.

she was clanging a torso-sized metal gong at 25 yards. Both barrels close together. Surprised me as the only experience I had had was with the ADC

and this is a 44/410 too.

I love my Bond Arms Snake Slayer model in .45/.410. That extra little extension of the grip makes all the difference in the world to my shooting. Makes it much easier to control. Mine is my " dogwalkin' " gun. I don't need my normal carriers close to home. I even tried the normal derringer grips for better concealibility but I couldn't control it for nothing with them, so I put the extended grips back on. The Bonds are well made.

i also have a bond, in 45 lc 410, its fun to play with and is hell on a snake with the 410s! i carry mine with silver tips and it is not bad at all, it kicks a little , i loaded some 185 swc for mine and it shoots sweet! but i mostly carry a 1911, but i will run to the store with the bond in my pocket, it is a well made gun csa
