I like both of these holsters for the price point and quality.

I will be OWB carrying a Ruger SR9C.

Pro's and con's between these 2 holsters? Is retention better with one than the other? Is one more concealable than the other or less likely to print?

Much appreciated,

First off, the SR9C is a pretty small gun so it shouldn't make a whole lot of difference with concealment between the two holsters.

DeSantis E-Gat http://www.desantisholster.com/THE-E-GAT-SLIDE

Desalts Speed Scabbard http://www.desantisholster.com/SPEED-SCABBARD

The E-Gat is a "slide" holster that has an open bottom where the slide of the gun sticks out. Your gun has such a short barrel it may not stick out the bottom at all. If it was a Beretta 92 or a 5" 1911, chances of you smacking the muzzle end when sitting would be good and you could launch the gun out of the holster. The E-Gat is also a straight drop holster. A canted holster would help concealing a gun with a big grip, but once again your SR9C is a small gun and it probably won't be much of a factor. The only retention provided by the holster is the molding of the leather. DeSantis is a mid-level maker, so how long good retention should last is unknown.

The Speed Scabbard address most of the concerns mentioned above. It fully covers the slide, is canted to help with concealment, and has a screw adjustable tension. The downside I see to the Speed Scabbard is all the leather sticking up at the mouth of the holster, which if it is, or becomes floppy, would make reholstering more difficult than with the E-Gat.

I'd consider the E-Gat a better holster for use at the range or in a training class as the open top and straight drop would make repeated draws and holstering easier. I'd consider the Speed Scabbard a better concealment option of the two.

The Speed Scabbard (SS) is a pancake holster.

The E-Gat (EG) is a more vertical holster and sits a bit further out from the belt. The open bottom allows use with different length slides of the same model gun

The SS will pull the gun into your body a bit more, the EG will be a bit faster in presentation. In a well designed holster, retention shouldn't differ much, if at all.

I prefer the non-pancake styles as I think they offer a more consistent presentation, but the vertical carry angle wouldn't be as comfortable in daily carry

I've used Speed Scabbards for about 30 years. The tops are not and do not get floppy. I guess if you worked at it you could get it floppy but not from normal use.

I have a DeSantis Mini-Slide for my Ruger SR9c.and I love it. It holds the gun close in and snug to my body and is extremely comfortable to wear.

This the DeSantis Min-Slide at a 2:00 carry position. Nicely concealable and easy to get to from this spot.

Thanks for the great replies!

I ended up with the mini-slide. Received it in the mail Christmas eve. The gun fits in it PERFECTLY.

Looking for a quality belt now, and then should be good to go.

thanks!

Congrats on getting a great fitting holster. When I ordered my holster from DeSantis I also got their gun belt which works perfectly with the Mini-Slide.
