i bought a pro carry hd iwb leather holster from holster store that is made for a k frame smith for my ruger service six. i was told the holster would be tight at first but would break in and fit my ruger well. i got the holster the other day and there is no break in needed, the gun goes in smooth and has some retention but can be moved forward and back, there is no side to side movement. the gun is not tight in the holster, is the service six larger or smaller than a k frame? will my gun just get looser over time or will it stay the same? this is my first leather iwb holster, i just recently got a desantis owb leather holster. been using nylon all my life but now with my ccdw permit i want something that will last. the desantis is for a k frame too and my gun fits good in it but it to didn't need breaking in but isn't loose in it. thanks

Might also be made to accommodate the L-frame and GP-100, which is a bit bigger than both. I think it is a mistake for manufacturers to make the same holster for sixguns that are not exactly the same size. A holster for the K-frame and Ruger Six series is fine but should not be made the same as one for the L-frame and GP. Same goes for the mid-frame Blackhawks, Colt New Frontier and SAA. They should not be the same as one for the large frame Blackhawk and Super Blackhawk.

If these are newly made holsters it might be that the 'new' K frame is slightly larger than the older K frames.

My Rugers, including my 3 inch GP 100, fits right in my K frame holsters. But, my GP and Speed Six are fixed sighted while my S&W Combat Magnums are adjustable sighted..

i wore it tonight out to try it, no problems i didn't have to re adjust it once. i think the reason it has small front to back movement is because some guns have adjustable sights. if mine did it would take up the space at the top and not move. the gun is tight at the cylinder area's and won't come out if held upside down. i'm new to leather so i'm thinking i am worrying about nothing but had to post to ease my mind. thanks

For my Security Six, I get the best fit from a holster that is primarily for a Python. That is too tight for a 686, and too big for a K frame. The Python fit also works well for my Interarms Rossi 971 VRC. The Ruger Sixes for me have been too loose in an L-frame holster. I found a pretty good selection going on "Python".
