I received my Desantis Nemesis today, and am somewhat puzzled about what appeal it has for my new Kahr PM9. If I use this holster in one of my upper coat pockets, the pocket just turns inside out, and it comes out with the gun every time I attempt to draw the weapon. It also draws with the gun when it is used in my pants cargo pocket.

The little Nemesis does break up the outline of the weapon in my front pocket, but I do not prefer to carry my gun there anyway. There is no "print" in my upper coat pocket with the PM9. If I am in the car, then it is not accessible from my front pants pocket because of the seat belt. That is why, during the cold months, I prefer to carry in my upper coat pocket, because the gun is always accessible.

I now have the opinion that no holster at all is the only reliable method for this type of carry.

Holster-less pocket carry is not a good idea IMO - without the pocket holster to position the gun reliably in your pocket and hold it in the same orientation, it can potentially flip-flop/rotate around in such a manner that, when you attempt to draw it in a hurry, you reach into the pocket and grip it by the barrel instead of the grip-frame, or grip the frame upside-down. This happens with my S&W 642 in my front pants pocket, particularly if I jump/run a bit and jostle the gun in my pocket.

Instead, try "wiping" the holster off of the gun during the draw by pressing against your torso(coat-pocket draw) or thigh(cargo-pocket draw) - this gives the "sticky" outer surface a chance to do it's job. As long as the Nemesis comes off of the gun, if it should happen to fall out of the pocket, or dangle halfway-out, no biggie...

If you can't get yourself trained to wipe the holster off of the gun on the draw, you may wish to consider a different type of pocket holster such as the Kramer, Mitch Rosen, Don Hume or Pocket Concealment Systems units, which have projections designed to either snag on the lip of the pocket during the draw, or to allow your thumb to physically push the holster off of the gun while in the pocket. Downside, these are molded leather pocket holsters, and will cost $40.00 and up...

Kor,
Thank you for your reply, and the list of other holster manufacturers.

It seems that for my use, none of the other manufacturers really seem to make anything that would be much more effective than the Nemesis. I can't see how a tight fitting leather holster with a suede backing or a slick leather "hook" would be so much better than what I have already purchased.

Wiping the holster in my present coat seems impossible, because the pocket is between Gore Tex (slick) and down insulation. More pressure to my abdomen while drawing the gun just insures that the oversize pocket turns inside out, and the holster stays firmly planted on the gun.

I honestly believe that the lower section of a heavy work sock stapled to a pocket shaped stiff piece of cardboard would be safer and more effective than this holster.

Sending the Nemesis back to Desantis for a refund would make the shipping charges equal the price of the item. If anyone on the forum has a Kahr PM9, and they live close to Chattanooga, TN, then I will meet them, and let this new in factory bag Nemesis go for $15.00

I will stick with pocket carry until I find something that works for me. I am looking at the 511 jackets, but want to see and try one first. Spending more money is no problem if that is what it takes to get an item that works. I just do not want to have to warn a BG to hold on a second so that I can sling this thing off my gun.

I love the Nemesis for back pocket carry in the summer, for my S&W 642. I realize though that I am talking apples and oranges here, revolver versus semi-auto. Good luck on your CCW holster mission!

Maybe you got a bad holster

I've used a Nemesis for years for my PM9 and before that for a Kel Tec P32. The holster seldom if ever came out of my pocket with the draw.

M4coyote - you're quite welcome, even though I haven't solved your problem yet...

OK, since I live in S. AZ, I seldom if ever have to wear coats with both Gore-Tex and down insulation. I wasn't aware that such a situation could occur. Cheap fix - turn the "pocket bag" of your upper coat pocket inside-out, and use a safety pin to physically attach the Nemesis to the "pocket bag." That way, you don't have to cut up one of your heavy work socks. :D Yeah, it's pretty lame, but anyone who's ever raised kids (and lots who haven't) probably has a safety pin somewhere in the house just going spare...
You just received it. It will "break in" with a little bit of use and will remain in the pocket during the draw. I carry a PM9 in a Nemesis everyday.
Also very true - shove the unloaded gun all the way into the holster hard, and wiggle/twist it around inside the holster for a couple of minutes. Repeat several more times. Shove the gun all the way back in hard once more, and leave the gun in the holster overnight. Try it again the next day, before you completely give up on it.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestions guys! The safety pin idea is excellent, as well as the idea that the holster will "form" itself to the PM9. I thought about this for a little while, and came up with an idea that helped a lot.

I turned my oven on its lowest setting, and placed the holster in there until it was plenty warm to the touch, but not hot enough to do any damage. I then removed it, placed the gun inside, and let it cool. I repeated this procedure several times, and the fit was great!

A safety pin is all I am lacking, and then I will be a very happy camper.:)

Thanks again!

The DeSantis SuperFly is far superior to the nemisis.

I have one for my PM9 and really like it.

m4coyote,
I've hear others complain about the Nemesis so you're not alone. I was about to suggest the SuperFly but kokapelli beat me to it. It's supposed to be better but I'm not sure I would try it since I was already bitten once. I carry my J frame revolver in a Mika's Pocket Holster. He makes both square and round cut versions and will make one for your PM9. He's a nice person to deal with too.

Bob Mika's Holsters are superb!

I have several of Bob's holsters... for P9, PM9, Smith J SC340. I had one custom made... half size height... that is perfect IMHO ... for the smith J.

His have a stiffener that hold the holster open... hold the coat or pocket material away from the gun for clean, quick, release without the holster coming with the gun. It also is open for easy reholster.

At times it is so loose in pocket carry that the revolver will slip out.. on the floor, so for the slippery pocket guns I have found the Nemesis works for me. Yes, it takes a slight "wipe" .. but after the Nemesis gets formed to your gun... not gripping so tightly... it will slip and release. Both excellent pocket holsters at reasonable prices.

Good luck.

Check yourself when you are drawing the gun. You could be pinching the holster between your trigger finger and the gun causing the holser to come out on the draw.
